Am not a computer whiz :-) and I get the same lousy message.
Somewhere in this thread one of our members received a reply from OqO support asking them to use a Samsung HDD utility.
Here is the full reply I got Spinrite 6 got rid of the problem for me - see my post below - my drive is a Hitachi HTC426060G8CE00 ATA device - I don't know if Samsung make it - I did not take OQO advice - hope this helps.

Dear John:
If the Hard Disk error message says "Windows detected a hard disk problem", there is really nothing wrong with the drive and we have a potential fix for you. Please let us know if this applies to you and if so here are some pertinent details:
Root Cause:
The reason this is happening is that the drive was erroneously reporting errors during the factory test process. This, in turn, resulted in artificially high error reporting, which tripped Vista's SMART threshold. After extensive consulting with Samsung, we have established there there is no damage being done to the drive, and no impact on drive functionality or reliability. In short, the
drive is fine and you have no cause for concern. The "short term fix" listed below simply resets the SMART log to initial Samsung factory default settings.
Fix, Long Term (pending):
The long-term fix will be to recalibrate HD error reporting tolerances. This will be done with a firmware patch release; we don't have an ETA yet, but are working toward long term resolution as quickly as possible
Fix, Short Term:
The short term fix is to reset the SMART log.
There are 3 simple steps to doing this:
A. Create DOS bootable media.
B. Copy the attached Samsung utility onto it (as attached).
C. Run a batch file from the DOS environment.
Detailed Instructions:
1. Creating the boot-to-DOS media
a) You can use any bootable media you like (USB drive, CD/DVD rom, or floppy), but we recommend USB key for reliability and convenience.
b) How to create a bootable USB key - See
http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm c) Copy the 3 files in hutil204.zip (attached, make sure to unzip first) onto your bootable USB key (or other bootable media); we recommend you put them all in the top/root directory (it's easiest if you do not put them into a subfolder)
2. Configure your OQO to boot to that USB key you have chosen (Insert the USB key into the USB port now)
a) Reboot your OQO to BIOS by hitting FN-DELETE repeatedly (Tip: you can hit the FN key twice, so that you get a steady green light, and then repeatedly hit the DELETE KEY) until you get the blue BIOS screen; if you hit the Windows splash screen you've gone to far! Reboot and try again.
b) BIOS > Boot Configuration
c) In DRIVE ASSIGNMENT ORDER, go to Drive D and choose 'USB Hard Drive'
d) In BOOT ORDER > Boot 1st, choose Drive D:
e) ESC to main menu
d) Write to CMOS and Exit
e) Save changes and exit: Yes
f) The oqo will Boot to the USB Key/Media
3. As you are rebooting, Execute the utility
a) Assuming you have copied the 3 files to the top-level (root) directory on your USB drive, simply type 'smart.bat' and hit enter
b) If successful, you will see the text "SMART information was initialized. SMART operation was disabled."
4. Remember to reset your BIOS to boot to your C: drive!
Let us know if this applies to you and if so that this fix solved the problem.

After reloading Vista Ultimate, Paragon Drive Backup and both CDs of Office 2007 I have a warning message about my OQO hard drive 'reporting failure' advising back-up and 'contact contact computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk'.
Called eXpansys Australia 1440 local time Wednesday to be advised by recorded message too busy, send email.
What do I do ? Questioning you easier and considered more likely to elicit a sensible reply.
