How many people use their OQO 02 as their only or main computer at home. I have been using my 02 as my dedicated home computer for 3 months hooked up to a 17" monitor, USB keyboard, wireless mouse and 100watt logitech speakers. The system behaves like a normal high end pc desktop with the exception of Skype, which can be a bit flakey if I open a web page or some other programme while talking. The great advantage of this system is when I travel with the 02 I don't have to copy anything to a separate laptop like emails, documents etc.
It's a great system

Interesting. Now that I think about it, I've actually been using my desktop to supplement my OQO. When I initially purchased my 01, it was the other way around.

At first, I viewed my OQO as an "extension" to my desktop, but my usage appears to have evolved.  I have several PCs at home, but the OQO is definitely used most. I find the majority of the time I use my home desktop is to prepare files I'll be using on my OQO.

I really like the concept of building  a super docking station that has a built-in  processor and RAM

This way, the docked device performs like a great desktop. It would leverage a dual  core system.

The mobile profile would have all the applications and files and good battery life because it's not running a dual core processor.

My dual core desktop now sits in the corner of my home office (to be made into my multimedia PC).

The OQO is now my only computer.  with my 24" monitor, BT MS7000 keyboard and mouse and BT 3G mobile phone.  The next thing I want to add is BT speakers.

Since April 2007 when I got my OQO 02, I no longer use my home desktop except to help my wife using it, or work laptop.  I stay fairly mobile with my 02 even at home, only docking to load music from a CD, but plan to eventually set up a heads down full size monitor, keyboard, & mouse for it.

At work is a different story, with corporate policy I use their desktp PC's for work & network access, using USB memory sticks to transfer files to my 02 if needed, but take my 02 to meetings to ink notes with Journal or OneNote. You should have seen their face when I was able to bring up a Word document for reference during one meeting to get some estimates from, then do some what ifs in Excel.

For my use, the OQO 02 has completely replaced my home desktop & work laptop PC's, and provides me a complete solution for both personal & professional use.

I have a desktop that I use for development, but I use the OQO for everything else. The OQO handles all my email, browsing, office, quickbooks and and anything else I can think of.

When I am working remotely, I RDP into the desktop through the OQO to code.

I just use my OQO2 as a desktopmate. It can barely be a desktop but you can not use it in serious applications.  When I am outside, it will be really a desktop.

My OQOs (and a Zaurus) are my only computers.  The OQO-2 is overkill for any application that I use -- office, finance, Internet, watching films. . . .

If I ever successfully get Linux on the OQO-2, I might buy another one so that I have separate Windows and Linux boxes, but at the present time I am not in the market for a desktop PC.  (I value my desktop too much!)

I'm in the same boat as Opus. I use the OQO as my personal Personal Computer. It goes with me most of the time. At work I'm not allowed to plug the OQO into our network so I'm left with USB transfers and online access to our corporate Lotus Notes.

Still, being able to carry gigabytes of documents into a meeting is great in and of itself. Being able to add my own notes to them is even better. Then when I can research things on the internet while a meeting is going on I truly become uber-geek.

Outside of work, the OQO has become my source and repository of information. It is rapidly taking over from my Palm as my silicon brain. If it only had a low powered alarm function I could ditch the Palm too.

Hmm, I haven't had a true desktop computer for over four years now, but the OQO has completely supplanted my Powerbook (17" would definitely be considered a desktop replacement, yet was amazingly portable) and Macbook (with a dual-core processor).

I do miss the processing power of my dual-core at times, especially with the multimedia I used to do, but the OQO has allowed me to focus on productivity applications now for school. If there is a super docking station with a dual core processor and discrete graphics card, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Something the size of a mac mini + OQO dock combination would be amazing.

My methods are very similar to what Nervz does.

I have all my scheduling and communication software (email, calendar, chat, VoIP, etc) on the OQO. Then I have a desktop monster I use for development & intensive work, which I can remotely access. Locally, I'm using a KVM to switch between the 2 so I can use the same keyboard & mouse, but each has a dedicated screen.

My OQO is 'my' personal PC but my wife refuses to use anything apart from my Dual Core Desktop! All she does is play card games and answers a few emails! When my old desktop broke I set up an unused laptop - same keyboard, mouse and monitor from the broken desktop - and she refused to use it!?! She said it wasn't the same!

I tried to show her my OQO but she held it at arms length and said 'I can't use this, I can't read the screen!' I gave up and took my OQO into another room so we could be alone. Wink

I bought a model 02 in August 2007 and I (too) have rarely touched my triple screened desktop machine since -- home usage is probably 98% vs 2%).  It's completely amazing to me how much I can accomplish on the little guy.  At work I code all day, so I do generally stick to my work machines, (not for any lack-of-power reason), but at home it's not even a contest.
