Has anyone done any testing with the release candidate of Vista SP1 and the OQO? Any gotchas on the OQO?

Does anyone know if Vista SP1 or XP SP3 has been released to the public yet or just to testers? If not, when can we expect them?
Thanks,
Stu

FWIW, I recently put SP1 on my Flipstart, and it's fine. Haven't had it on long enough to really notice any big difference. I plan to put it on the 02 later today...

I installed Vista with SP1 already intergrated on my 02 with 32gb SSD. Deleting and copying files is faster... Also now GOM Player runs really badly, but Windows Media Player 11 plays everything very smoothly. I noticed that the audio service now only takes 2-3% of the processor while playing instead of the previous 10%. I still went through and tweaked it all (turning off search indexing service etc)...
Aprt from that I don't really notice any differences.

I have finally got an OQO that is working satisfactory except for the green LED's freezing on occasion, I will be loading SP1 tonight and see what happens, I will report back with my findings.

Regarding green LEDs stuck, seem my post
http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,2058.0.html
The other 'gatcha' with SP1 is a pre-requisite update that sometimes gets stuck in an endless loop "Installing Update 3 of 3, 0%" then reboot, then back again. Loads of people effected (see google).
Seems to be dependent upon what order updates have been auto-applied.
Happened on 1 out of 4 of my Vista machines, and the only way back is boot from DVD and restore to earlier time. MS shoudl be ashamed!

Thought I'd share the latest word from OQO tech support on SP1.
Yesterday 04/20/2008 09:36 PM I asked Why does this not install automatically on my OQO 02 ?
Today the reply unedited:

Hello John,
At this time Microsoft is choosing not to make Vista SP1 available for automatic updates to users running certain versions of various manufacturers' drivers. Our Sigmatel Audio device uses a custom version of the Sigmatel drivers, and the manufacturer (sigmatel) has not released an update in quite some time for this device. The relevant knowledgebase article regarding this can be found on Microsoft's website at this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343/en-us
On some of our demo units we have installed Vista SP1 and it appears to work ok. However, SP1 has not been fully quality tested and there may still be some problems associated with its installation - particularly considering that Microsoft themselves is recommending against installing SP1 when certain drivers are installed.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Belk

OK, now we know the Reason why. But when we get an update for the Custom Sigamtel Driver? OQO is our Partner to ask about Driver Updates, not Sigmatel...

ok this is the same information we had as a community already figured out. the BIG and very real question is what is being done to release an updated driver. My understanding is there are problems with the headphone jack if you force the upgrade.... so works "OK" is only if you except the loss of a key function. This is less like an answer to the real issue, and more like a deflection of the question.
So who is truly responsible... Well since OQO is who I have my device from (3 year coverage and all) I would expect them (the OEM Vendor) now from their perspective Sigmatel might be the one in question... But how was sigmatels product delivered? a lot of chip vendors give you refrence hardware and a reference driver and a customization or SDK for the driver and then they claim no responsibility for the OEM provided driver. They will usualy provide refresh "updates" to the reference driver which can usually be customized the same way the original was... but again that would be between OQO and Sigmatel and from a quality of product prospective should be seamless to us users....

Is there anyway we could get Microsoft to build an operating system for the telephone network. It would be great to have all the worlds phones get:
Viruses
Delete themselves and need reinstalling on a regular basis
Require you to download updates each day/week
Withdraw support unless you update regularly
Identical neighbouring phones on the same provider working differently
Stop working for no reason
Require expensive addons to get them to do the job they were bought for
Use more power each year for no added benefit
But why stop at telephones. Why dont we get Microsoft to run the water supply, electricity General Motors, the US mail.........

Thanks for bringing the SP1 thread up again. OQO still has not updated the Sigmatel driver package and so Windows Update still does not offer us SP1. Paul Thurott mentioned on his Windows Weekly podcast last Friday that all the driver issues have been resolved so now everyone should have SP1 if they are set for auto updates. Guess he doesn't have an OQO.

FYI after I installed SP1 I no longer was able to install any new USB devices.. it would keep saying found new device and try and install the software.. but would be uncessful every time. I couldn't even read a USB memory stick. (I was able to read anything that was installed previous to SP1, even though it would still say 'new device...')
Searched far and wide and found quite a few ppl had this problem but it was not related to SP1.. there were a few solutions but none of them completely worked for my case.
This problem did not occur on my Multimedia computer with SP1.
I have now uninstalled SP1 on the OQO and it all works ok now.
ps after the uninstall my S3 video was no longer working properly.. A reinstall of the driver kept failing.. I later noticed that for some reason the uninstall of SP1 disabled the VIA - AGP device under device manager.. re enabled it and installed the video driver and now its all up and running again.
