I've finally gotten a chance to put together a unofficial Linux install guide for the OQO.  Much like Moshen's guide for the 01+, this is unofficial and unsupported.  That being said, as engineering time permits, we're excited about trying to make Linux on the unit work the best that it can.  For those of you already running Linux, this guide probably does not contain anything that you do not already know how to do.  It shows you how to install Ubuntu 7.04, enable DMA for the hard disk, includes sample connect scripts for the WWAN, and has a patch to use the openchrome X.org drivers (providing better video playback than simply vesa).

There are still a few things that don't work yet.  Audio playback via the built in speaker, for example.  Also, all of the hardware settings editable via the OQO control panel applet in Windows cannot be changed from Linux.  There could be more "gotcha"s.  As I have time, I'll try to work on these things and update the guide.  Consider this an alpha project, from one Linux user to another.  :)  For these reasons, I strongly recommend keeping Windows on your machines, and dual-booting.

This guide may contain some mistakes -- point them out to me and I will fix them.

The next thing on the Linux agenda for me will be getting a more recent kernel to work.   There are power management improvements made since 2.6.20 are I am excited to see just how low power I can tweak an OQO running linux.  I am aware of the issues using the kernel shipped with 7.10 as well as 2.6.23.  Should anyone else make headway in this, beating me to it, patches are always appreciated.  :)

Your link just takes me to the standard (international) OQO page.  Am I missing something?

You don't live in the US, do you? Uhm, thanks to the whole thing of OQO directing overseas visitors to the international page, about the only option is to find a proxy based in the us you can view the site through. At least until somebody mirrors the page elsewhere.

Apologies.  In my haste to post the install guide I forgot that the web server for non-US visitors redirects to a different location.  I'll work on getting the guide visible for those not in the US and post a link when it's up.

Nice job.  Thanks.  How is it on support for sleep and hibernating.
