I am wondering if anyone try this nice program get on OQO 02.

http://research.microsoft.com/users/kenh/InkSeine/

I know its not release yet to the public but maybe those who got the early beta can give some insight to how usable it is on the 02 small screen.

In addition to usability, I'd also like someone to address its use of system resources on the OQO.

I just browse through Inkseine website and notice it is available for download and yet it still indicated for release on the 15th, this Friday.

Just thought to let you all know.

Let us know of how you go with the program.  Smiley

the download link does not work yet, will have to wait after Valentine's...

lots of previews, tutorials, powerpoint, & videos to get ready though. One word of caution, must turn on "indexing" in Vista for search capability, a known should disable "tweak" for Vista.

There's no scrolling support, it always scales the page to fit the screen.
(see http://community.research.microsoft.com/blogs/alpineinker/archive/2008/02/13/inkseine-has-its-limitations.aspx).  So the initial release I don't think will be too usable on an OQO.

Installed, quick test on my 02

Tested on OQO 02 with Vista Biz.

- search crash, might related to I disabled Indexing Service in Vista.
- the Inking is a bit slow, but may or may not related to InkSeine, as I found the same problem when doing ink in other program, when I do T(h)(i)s, the i is sticked to the h, this also might related to my bad handwriting habit.
- screen is a bit small to use...... currently I do almost the same action with OneNote as InkSeine.

Anyone want to test anything else?

according to the install directions, KH stresses the point that you need to have indexing turned on, which also implies you should also run indexing to update the seach pointers.

If you've had indexing off, updating all your index links after re-enabliing it will take awhile so good time for a break from your 02 while it is running.

I would also recommend checking out the web sight for FAQ, overview, the tutorial & samples you can download, etc... I can see this tool getting missunderstood as much as the intention of UMPC's.

I'm hoping to get a chance to check it out this 3 day weekend, will report back if I do.

Yes, I notice it, may try later on the Indexing service.

Just a bit of update:

I found that the crash might not related to the indexing service, I have it on.
it might related to the default system language/location I set, not US.

Great idea tho on InkSeine, hope it gets better and better, but now, back to OneNote....

Hi OQO Friends,

I just discovered this thread. I am envious because I have not been able to try InkSeine on an OQO yet myself. I am planning to purchase one though, so my motivation to make it work better on that device will soon increase dramatically!

Regarding the crash:

1. Bug fix in the works! We had very little testing of InkSeine outside the US before our release, so we kind of expected it would suffer localization issues... So yes, there is a bug that causes copy/paste, undo/redo, and loading of saved files to all fail. You also may get an error dialog where it will tell you "the requested recognizer is not available."  We have a fix coming for all of these things and we will post it up as soon as possible - probably early next week.

2. Yes, you do need the Vista Search / Windows Desktop Search to be active for InkSeine to work correctly. I believe it will work without it as long as you don't attempt to do a personal search (aka desktop search), but we haven't tested it that way, and to be honest the personal search is one of the most interesting features of InkSeine, so without that InkSeine is much less useful (although the radial menus and tool ring are still definitely worth checking out).

Thanks for trying it out and let me know if there are other things that you all think would make it more useful / cool / fun on the OQO, or if any other bugs crop up.

Welcome to the forum.

Inkseine is a very promising program and by the sound of things it will get batter.

Now, quickly go and get an OQO and improve the program and everyone will LOVE you for it.

I can't wait!!   Wink

I do agree with vting, InkSeine is a very promising software for TabletPCs, really looking forward for improvements coming!!
