Hey all,

I just thought I'd recommend a fantastic freeware DVD ripping application called 'Handbrake'

Check it out at:

www.handbrake.fr

It's really easy to use and the quality easily surpasses any other apps I've used.

Stu (and others),
My first attempts generated either too large files or too poor quality, over long conversion times. Rather than trying all the permutations of settings, I ask those who have been through this already. Do you use any specific settings in Handbrake which maximises video/audio quality and minimises file size at the same time? Also, which format of Handbrake is playable in GOM?

Hey 9a6or,

Sorry that it's taken me so long to reply to this message. Just so you know and so you don't think I'm ignoring you, after exams (next week) I will post a guide on using Handbrake and will deal with the above issues that you've mentioned. I will PM you when it's up. Smiley

In the meantime, Handbrake can produce rather large files so I always use the 'Target Video Size' option (I think it's in the 'Video' tab) and enter 700MB as the target size. I find that the quality is usually great at this size and that it isn't too big for GOM Player to read.

Yes, Handbrake is often terribly slow. I find it's best to disable the two way encoding option and this will usually speed it up. Also make sure that Handbrake is the only program that you have running when you are ripping DVDs. Smiley

Anyway, I will post a how to guide soon for those who are interested.

The best DVD ripping software I've ever used is the following.

DVDDecrypter

AutoGK (Will use both the free Xvid codec and DivX if you've paid for it)

It will take just over an hour but then it is a very intensive processing task.
