I would like to start a thread for PC Gamers - those that would like to waste a little time in Airport lounges on their OQO.

Many games that i have tried simply don't work on the OQO, mainly due to the screen format being nonstandard. I have managed to get World of Warcraft running by using an application called Maximiser that allows you to force the screen format to 800*480.

Please reply with any games you have succeeded in playing on the OQO. If you can provide details on how it performs (with small screen, processor / GPU limitations, keyboard problems and any work arounds). Please also indicate if you need to have a CD/DVD drive and the game disk in the drive to fire up the game - if so, have you a solution to get around this so that you can play without having the disk?

So to get this started:

World of Warcraft - with TBC expansion pack and Cosmos Addon. Needs Maximiser to reformat the screen - can be found at http://worldofwarcraft.filefront.com/file/Maximizer;43576
Needs nearly 8Gb of disk space!
Performance: you can expect about 5 fps refresh which is acceptable for game play - ensure that most graphic options are turned down to the minimum settings.
Whilst it is possible to play using the OQO keyboard and pointer it is hard - ok for doing professions and working on the Auction house but impossible to use in a raid! You need an external mouse for real game play.
The application works well over 3G even taking into account the higher than average latency provided across the cellular network.
The size of the screen does make some of the text a little difficult to read - but hey, buy a pair of glasses Smiley
Battery life when playing WoW isn't up to much - probably about half an hour so be sure to sit near a power socket.
The game doesn't require a CD/DVD to load once installed.

I used to have Neverwinter nights installed on my OQO and as one who doesn't really sleep in long flights it provided hours of entertainment.
You do need to hack the ini file in order for the game to work with the OQO native resolution and a mouse/portable keyboard makes for a better playing experience but you can also do without.
I solved the CD need with Alcohol 120%. Just made a image copy of my original play-cd and loaded it as a virtual drive so I can play. The game didn't seem to know the difference.
The game itself runs rather good. You need to compromise the graphics a bit and when you have mass enemies it can be a bit slow to respond but other then that it was fun to play.
I am now looking for a new game since I just about played every aspect of this one Smiley
Ow I should mention I run windows xp with 1gb RAM and 1.5 processor.

I know that there are videos of people running StarCraft on the OQO. By the way I think this is a really good thread idea.

As I've mentioned in a previous post. I'm currently running HomeWorld (first version) with Daemon Tools providing the CD image.

Works like a charm.

Also Dungeon Keeper 2.

I played Starcraft on my OQO.  Blizzard lists the modification needed to run the game without a CD in their support area.

The only thing was the screen resolution.  There's no widescreen option so it's a little old scrolling around.

I have tried Sim City 4 and the screen resolution makes it impossible to play.  I'm not sure if there is anyway around it.  It would be great to have to play on an external monitor though.

Yea I just installed starcraft on my oqo 02.  Also followed the instructions on Blizzard's website so that I don't need the cd to play.  Wish it was wide screen since I wanted to play it using the stylus.  Now the stylus is offset by the black borders on the left and right of the gaming area. grrr...anyone figure a way to change the resolution or stretch the game screen?

I just got my oqo and installed starcraft. It would be so enjoyable to use the stylus but I don't think that starcraft can go widescreen at all.

I did for Unreal - you shoot with the left mouse key, walk left with Q, straight with W, backwards with S and right with E.

For racegames, I use the same combination, just with 1,2,3 and 5 on the numberpad.

I managed to get Warhammer Soulstorm working albeit slightly laggy. Nothing I can`t bear with though.

Nuro, how are you forcing you programs into windowed mode?

it depends on the title, some do it.. some wont.. if i remember correcly sime city is just a command line modifer.. somethign simple like -w
i think rome is too.

the trick to getting them to work is to set you resolution on the oqo as high a possible and then run in wondowed mode.. youl be able to see the whole game widnow. since the oqo basically uses a virtual resolution games the force fullscreen are too big, ive had luck with a couple that screen scrolling works on but most are buggy.

I've been playing around with a utility (with no success so far) DXWnd.

This is supposed to force applications into a windowed mode.

I'm currently struggling with Empire Earth.

Hi there!
First post here. I'm a Model e2 User since march (from Austria).

I've tested quite a lot of Games on this gadget, and it's not always easy due to it's native screen resolution. But with a little trial and error quite a lot of games run perfektly on the OQO.

Games perfectly playable on my OQO (I'm using XP of course):

C&C - Tiberian Dawn (640x480)
C&C - Red Alert (800x480)
C&C - Tiberian Sun (800x480)
C&C - Red alert 2 (640x480)
Civ 1 (Fullscreen)
Civ 2 (800x480)
Colonization for Windows
Imperialism 1 + 2
All the Scumm-VM-Games (fullscreen)
Starcraft (640x480)
Tropico (640x480)
Worms World Party (640x480)
Anstoss 3 (Football Management Game)
Trackmania Nations forever
and many more of the older games.

And there are a lot games with minimum screen resolution 800x600. So there is a need to scroll - this is quite annoying with some games but with some others ist's still fun. These are:

Alpha Centauri
Civ 3 (Native Resolution needed is 1024x768 - not playable. But there's a little tool which makes it possible to play on 800x600. I#m verry happy with that.
Gettysburg! (Yes, I'm a fan of Sid Meier Games  Grin)
Age of Empires 2
Medieval - Total war

I've never tested games in windowed mode so far.
