Thats why I think I might wait before installing, I hate to go through the process without gaining anything.
Is SP1 offered in Windows Update for your OQO?
I have not ran the update yet, I'm scared.

I've been running Vista SP1 since about a week it came out, asked OQO if it was OK to do so they said yes.
Did you install it from the Standalone package or from Windows Update? If from WU, did you at any point install the IDT driver from WU?
Have you experienced any problems with the sound/audio jack?
Can you install new USB devices? Kyone said he lost that ability:
http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,1388.msg17879.html#msg17879 .

I installed the IDT driver and then had to uninstall it when my audio driver wouldn't work. After updating to SP1 I've had no problems with the sound or audio jack. Right now I'm listening to 'Pour Que Tu M'aimes Encore' by Celine Dion through my headphones (this song rocks!!!). The only thing I can fault SP1 on is that I haven't yet seen any speed increase.

Bonne nuit

My question was whether or not it was offered to your OQO on "Windows Update". (Some people have downloaded the standalone version from Microsoft.)  My OQO is not even being offered SP1 on Windows Update because of the old Sigmatel (now IDT) audio drivers which have not been updated.  If you do see it available on WU, did you previously install, hide, or ignore the IDT update that showed up on Windows Update a few weeks ago?  If you did install the IDT update, did it cause any sound (audio jack) problems?

Hey RonC,

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 showed up in Windows Update AFTER I installed (then uninstalled) the IDT audio drivers. The IDT audio drivers caused me a lot of problems - no sound! - so unless the problem has been fixed with it then I wouldn't install the IDT drivers. I had (and still have) the original Sigmatel audio drivers on when I updating to SP1.

Hope this helps,

Stu Smiley

P.S. It's weird that Service Pack 1 is showing up in some people's Windows Update and not others. Maybe it's because I installed then roll-backed the IDT driver. Huh

As far as I can tell from the info provided by most posters, you are the only one who has seen SP1 on WU and that may be for the reason you stated.  As of today I'm still getting the standard stock "solved" response from OQO:

"At this time Microsoft is choosing not to make Vista SP1 available for automatic updates to users running certain versions of various manufacturers' drivers. Our Sigmatel Audio device uses a custom version of the Sigmatel drivers, and the manufacturer (sigmatel) has not released an update in quite some time for this device.

On some of our demo units we have installed Vista SP1 and it appears to work ok. However, SP1 has not been fully quality tested and there may still be some problems associated with its installation - particularly considering that Microsoft themselves is recommending against installing SP1 when certain drivers are installed."

I have been running SP1 for some time now with no apparent problems (after the audio driver uninstall-reinstall dance).  For those who are confident in its continued use there is a handy tip from Digital Inspiration on removing the older versions of Vista files from the hard drive (these are retained in case you decide to uninstall SP1 later from your computer).  Details at:

Note the health warning on doing this!

I guess they're probably just waiting for information on when the new Sigmatel drivers will be released or until SP1 supports the current Sigmatel drivers.

I've just discovered that only about 7% of Dennis Moore's posts are in the "Windows" category.

Ronc, your post made me laugh.....there was me thinking someone had posted to say that everything is go go go!!

I am sure something must be going on in the background - though an update or even rough timeframe would be appreciated.

The service pack was created for smoother running of the system - not having it cannot be a good thing.

Seems odd that there isnt even a posting.....this is SP1 after all.

Its just frustrating.....

With each day will require for SP1 smaller. The responsible  developers will have no interest in an integration of SP1 into old OQO models.

Well I have just downloaded the standalone version onto my e2 ssd and it took ages to install but...all works ok including sound.  I didn't mess with any drivers and have always made sure that I never installed the Microsift drivers for anything but so far so good...

Now all I have to doo is look for any improvements...don't see any..

just got a response from the guys who are working on this and they hope to have something in the near future. albeit no fixed date.

Sounds like its not a quick fix because they are going to release a knowledge base article around it too.

At least things are moving in the right direction.

Have to say that im getting a fair few WU recently........which i cant help wonder are part of sp1........but be tricky for ms to manage its updates with sp1 install hamstrung.  Of course i guess that depends how widespread the problem is other than OQO users.
