IMO the only thing that could cause such a problem would be a power spike.
What's the chance of your mobo and HDD dying at the same time ?

Do you mean when charging it? I always use a surge protector, especially when traveling.

internal 1.8 in hdd are renowned to not be as robust as internal 2-5inch ones..last time my int 1.8in 40gb hdd died on me was when i was using the vaio u3..first clicking sound..then bios beeps, then dead...
since then i rely on hdd life for notebooks & hd sentinel for diagnostic purposes..as soon as i am up to 70% wear..i make plans to chg the hdd..and practices like ghosting becomes 2nd nature...
I am a huge fan of ssd based umpcs exp slc flash based ones and not the slower mlc flash ones..not only lighter by no need for defrag rubbish etc
more expensive but more peace of mind...my 2cts

Just leaving the office for the day, but wanted to let everyone know that my OQO arrived back from repair this morning!!
I haven't done much with it other than complete the Vista setup and run updates, but I didn't have my charger with me and I was down to 30 minutes on the battery before I put it to sleep.
Whatever they did, it's just amazing! Everything works faster - OQO Manager is so fast and turns on the WWAN and LAN very quickly. Before it would take quite awhile for either to respond to a change.
I'm going to be very cautious about installing only the apps that I really use so that I can benefit from a clean Windows installation.
A very happy day!!!

. . .
Does anyone have a cure for OQO withdrawal?? I'm starting to get the shakes...
Sandy
It's what really got me to purchase my Sony UX!
Only way to cure the UMPC withdrawal is to have another UMPC to fall back on.

Nope. I just got a packing slip that indicated that the OQO was returned in "repaired" condition.
I think I'll call support tomorrow and find out what the final report indicated.

All -
I have just joined the "in crowd" of catastrophic OQO failures! >
I work on an IT team of four members with a rotating 24/7 response shift. We all carry the OQO 02 for use in emergencies. We have had our devices for approximately 5 months now and July has been a particularly unlucky month for the OQOs in our group. As of yesterday when my device entered the "power light lit, no screen, no fan" configuration, we have lost three devices to this problem.
The first happened a couple weeks ago and was repaired and returned very quickly. Our second occurrence happened this past Monday and was shipped off yesterday. I am still in the midst of doing the back and forth with support waiting for the inevitable RMA.
I would like to say this thread has been a wealth of information while trying to work through these problems. Thank you everyone for your insights into the small (and large) quirks the OQO has.
Sandy, glad to hear you made your meeting.

My similar problem started after installing SP1 on July 11th. I've found I can recover from it by doing a "forced shutdown" (i.e. hold the power button in until it goes off.) I've got a support ticket started on Microsoft's free SP1 troubleshooting site. Your sig is missing but that is a good place to put your configuration info. (sandydlc and I both have Vista.) I mention that since you are bound to get a few responses from XP people who assume that if your are having any trouble it's due to Vista.

Thanks, Ronc. This has been rectified.
Unfortunately, no amount of hard powering down was going to bring back my OQO. It was shipped out yesterday so we shall see what befalls it.

Same problem here. I'm guessing mine has to do with Vista SP1, but that's just a guess.

OQO's tech supports estimates two to four weeks before I get my 02 back. Arrgh.
It's back to using a laptop for now...and it definitely doesn't feel as good.
edit: luckily I was able to backup the 02 completely before it died. Next time I'll setup a sync between it and a laptop. *sigh*

I sincerely hope this is not the case since my OQO just went out yesterday and I will be back on 24/7 rotation in a week and a half.
The first one of our group that went through this had just over a one week turnaround on his repair which required replacement of the main board.
