Is OQO dead?
«

I'm wondering what is happening to OQO... their website hasn't been updated since January, there are no news or information coming in, nor have we heard a word from an OQO employe... anyone knows what's going on there?

I think we sometimes forget that OQO is not like bigger corporations like HP or Dell, which refreshes their home pages regularly.
Having said that, it also wouldn't kill OQO to just change a panel or two on their home page regularly, even when it points to older/same content just to keep things looking fresh. Something like the Playboy homepage (or so I heard
).

They did make an update, but it's subtle. The "Small Biz Technology" story in the News section of their home page is dated July 12th. It must be a relatively recent addition. Also, at some point, they stopped offering 32GB SSDs.
I checked at the end of June because I was curious about how they deal with not being able to sell WinXP pre-installed. They'd updated their store to sell only the Vista configurations, plus an optional $19 WinXP install disc.
So, they are doing something.
[BTW, I'm not normally one to complain about OQO prices, not because I think they're affordable but because I think they're what OQO's target audience will bear. However, I do want to point out that OQO is still charging ~$1000 premium for the 64GB SSD while Apple has lowered its premium to $600. Do economies of scale make that big a difference in the price? Apple's used to be $1000.
Of course, it's a capitalist economy and companies charge what the market will bear. I just thought it was interesting. Everything is at 5-7 week availability if you order from OQO's web store anyway. (Note that this used to be 10-12 week availability.)]

This is something that OQO needs to do something about as it will put a lot of potential customers off purchasing if they are led to the same opinion.
I agree with Bungee, it wouldn't hurt to change a few panels and change a few images every now and then. Dennis does a great job with his blog, the stories would be great in a 'Hot News' section on the site.

Hi,
Jim here from the OQO web team. The /intl site has not been updated as frequently as the domestic site, but we are working on that. There have been substantial additions to the U.S. site, including a new 'Partner' tab in the top navigation and the posting of various case studies.
Other notable updates have been in the News section, with various awards and articles.
More updates to come, particularly with the /intl site.
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the update snippets, Jim. I'll continue to keep looking at the two sites but the question upon everybody's lips is:- when is it coming!!?

Hi JCC, you should drop by

some time... thanks for reminding me again that International OQO customers are second classed citizens.

I'm kinda more interested in where Dennis has been, he's not logged on since May here, and I dropped him an email a while back and never heard back from him which I thought was a little odd!

Same here. I guess he's just really busy at the moment.

I disagree. All companies have to start somewhere and OQO are the pioneers in this field. I strongly believe that with a shift in their marketing focus OQO has a lot of potential and I can't wait to see what the future brings for them.

Hey bumblebee/Michael. Ok we get it already, you really
don't like OQO since you've been burnt once
. Go entertain yourself on a Gigabyte MID 528, LG XNote B831 or whatever.
