Called RCS today (8/7) on 56th & Madison in NYC (listed on the OQO site under Retailers, http://www.oqo.com/partners/retailers.html) to find out if they had any OQO 02 in stock for pickup.  The lady on the phone said that they are out of all OQO 02 models and wont sell anymore 02's because they have to clear out their inventory for new OQO models expected (as she said) in late Aug or early Sept.

Speculation, wishful thinking, or just more Store BS?

If an 03 was in the near future they've kept a tight lid on it.

If retailers know this information anyone else care to call another retailer to see what they know..

I have the same problem with expansys, todoumpc, ... all spain / europe retailers.

I post in this thread the same problem.

http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,2908.0.html

I think in september / october we see an oqo 03 Nano.

Sure!  Grin

@Ronc:  I saw the same thing, but have seen dwindling quantities at the retailers here in NYC over the past 2 weeks, that's why I gave them a call.

B&H on 34St, RCS on 56St, and J&R downtown all have very minimal quantities or none remaining at this point on their sites.

We'll just have to be patient, I'm sure the next model will be a great improvement, with many new features!

There should be some lag time from a Model 03 announcement and when the units actually ship to retailers. That's something to keep in mind as well.

Well, the big upcoming shows are:

CTIA-Wireless IT & Entertainment - San Francisco - 9/10
Interop-New York - 9/15 (which shows up on OQO's list of events last year)
WIRED NextFest - 9/27 - Chicago (which also shows up on OQO's list of events last year)

On the other hand, the press releases announcing the upgraded 02 and the e2 don't appear to be associated with a trade show so who knows?

P.S. What's the best way to protect the OQO from drooling?

Doesn't have to mean that the 03 is near. It could be another incremental improvement to the 02, like the e model last year.

This doesn't actually tell us anything about whether there will be a new model or not, but OQO has made changes to the product line up on their web site. The net effect is more persistent storage on the "good" and "better" models, but (I think) fewer SKUs overall.

The good model now comes with a 60GB HDD. The better model comes with either a 120GB HDD or a 32GB SSD for the same price. The best model has the 64GB SSD and the Sunlight Optimized Display standard. The better and best models can optionally have EV-DO Rev A. modems. (You don't get any hardware choices on the good model. It comes with a 1G of RAM, but no option for an EV-DO modem.)

BTW, this makes the best model noticeably more expensive than the other ones: $1299, $1699, and $2999. I hope that the premium for a 64GB SSD will eventually decrease. Then again, I was hoping that would have happened by now. It also means that if you want the Sunlight Optimized Display, you have to really want it since it comes only with the best model. OTOH, if you want the 32GB SSD, which they weren't selling at all for a while, it's now much cheaper than it used to be.

Of course, since the end of June, they've shifted to selling only Vista Business on the better and best models along with an optional WinXP installation disc. (I believe selling only Vista is, in part, a Microsoft imposed change. Selling only Vista Business is probably to reduce the number of SKUs they have.) The good model still comes with WinXP Home.

They're now advertising 4-6 week availability. Given that they used to be something like 10-14 week available maybe a month ago, this is a vast improvement.

As I said at the start, this says nothing about whether there will be a new model or if there is when it may show up. But, for what it's worth, they are tinkering with their product line up.

No new info, but building the context
1. Taking the digitimes (http://www.digitimes.com/mobos/a20080814PD226.html) statement that "VIA [...snip...] has recently landed orders from a certain first-tier notebook vendor and the product will appear in the market by October this year." and
2. assuming OQO will use the NANO and will be among one of the first companies releasing a product, this
3. matches quite well the (non) availabilty of current 02/e2 models reported above, the expansys germany end of september availability dates (btw, their pricing structure is really strange) and DavePs showdates

So I'm (too) quite sure we're not far away from getting news...

interesting.. although, this seems kind of sudden. Course the company has been quite for a while (including dennis' comments). While he could just be busy with normal day to day stuff, a new model release is certainly something to keep folks busy with.

Course this line of speculation doesn't help me, since I'm about to buy an 02. Looks like patience might be in order, yet again. (It's killing me)
