Does anyone know what type of battery life we're talking about with the Atom processor?

I'll have to admit that I'm a little disappointed, I was really hoping for the new VIA chips - they seem to have so much going for them. Hopefully (fingers crossed) OQO will consider the VIA as a BTO option.

In battery life... i hope this... use possibly the same processor as OQO
http://www.pocketables.net/2008/08/fujitsu-lifeb-1.html

Cooler...and 8-9 hours in Windows Vista will be FANTASTIC Cheesy

But we don't know what Atom processor will have... could be this for best models?

http://www.slashgear.com/dual-core-intel-atom-330-delayed-until-q4-2008-2512978.php

One comment, all Intel MIDs have touchscreen and GPS integrated Cheesy OQO Touch is near folks Cheesy
I hoped Nano option, but if OQO choose Intel... must be a cause. Dennis give us...

performance : with dual core atom could be better than Nano but in mobility scenarios this is not the top spec for end users i think. Wilcom D4 with Atom 1,3 run Windows Vista OK Cheesy

http://www.pocketables.net/2008/07/video-vista-hom.html

battery life: better than Nano.
Thermals: better than Nano
Usability, Design and form factor: OQO with any chip Cheesy

And although Dennis said this is only a product showcase, it is only a matter of time there is a real announcement. And these in my opinion affect the actual model sales. I want a cooler, better battery, touch and GPS OQO for my customers Cheesy and me.

I don't agree or think it follows logically.  But I'm going to put my comments back in the original thread where readers can see the chain of posts and view Dennis' reply in context.

I don't care what processor is used as long as it improves the overall capabilities of the device. If apps run smoother, more memory available, battery life improves, add updated WIFI/GPS/3G functionality, then I'm interested. Otherwise, why waste the time and effort? Cheers.  Cool

First of all excuse members of forum if 'Oqo use atom.confirmed!?' (with question, used for debate it) topic, has caused some confusion. That isn't my intention, only promote just opinions and show the echo of the internet about this new.

I am sure Dennis and OQO team are excited by the reaction of the community about any new OQO product / prototype / showcase or anything. They know if Intel show OQO using Atom something happens not?  Wink

I'm agree with hxpii, better procesor without better battery life, touch screen, gps, cameras, new functionality is a waste of time for the most end users. And OQO must see what Apple are doing. What time rest for Apple MID or mini tablet pc like OQO? Time to market is fundamental nowadays.

And i think they are in final stage of development of something new. Actually OQO models are out of stock, no responses from providers...OQO is no dead sure Wink, so all signals indicate a new model is near.

But please, this is only my 'innocent' opinion  Grin

Thanks

"All signals"  How does this say a new model is near?  Out of stock has been explained by part shortages and has affected new units and repairs.

The only real sign I see of a new model is the anxiety on this forum Smiley

A very good comment in SLASHGEAR of OQO and Atom and some clues of OQO 03? Grin

'More likely, maybe, the key is in Moore’s phrasing: “not an impending product announcement” [emphasis mine].  With Intel rumored to be phasing out the single-core Atom at some point in Q2 2009, it would make more sense for any future Intel-based OQO UMPC to use the upcoming dual-core Atom 330.  However that chip is not ready for primetime, and an announcement about devices using it would be premature and likely impact on OQO 02 sales as would-be customers hold off for the next version.'

MID's using dual core Atom

New ultra-speed, ultra low voltage SSDs from Intel

Well, if OQO was trying to hold off announcing they're using the Atom for some strategic reason, this will throw a wrench in the works.  Intel spilled it beans, it would appear:

"The new OQO handheld will include Atom Z-series processors built for mobile Internet devices, said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs for mobile Internet devices at Intel. The Z-series single-core processors run between 800MHz and 1.86GHz. Intel also makes a version of the Atom processor for low-cost laptops and desktops."

From:
http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/150097/intel_confirms_oqo_to_use_atom_in_handheld_pc.html

I'd definitely prefer to have the Atom, if only for the power savings and (assuming intel graphics) quality Linux graphics support (Compiz capable)... also, the integrated GMA Intel rocks Quartz acceleration in OSX.
