I think this has been discussed before but I can't find any reference to it.

Has anyone tried it ?

IIRC Windows update tried to foist on OQO/Vista users a couple of bad updates: S3-VIA and IDT-Sigmatel.  I believe OQO told us not to install any drivers either from Microsoft or the device manufacturer but only those on OQO's website.  If you are doing a new install from a Vista disk (not OQO's recovery disk) there is an OQOTalk forum post about how to obtain the Atheros driver:
http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,971.msg19566.html#msg19566
Basically, you download the Atheros package from the XP section of OQO downloads.  Then unzip it but do not run any executables.  One of the items is a folder called "Atheros Drivers".  Now go to device manager and look for the Atheros item which should have an exclamation point next to it and use the "update driver" function there, navigating to the "Atheros Drivers" folder you downloaded.

Thanks Ronc.. the reason I ask is that a few have been complaining about connection and signal strength issues and I thougt with a new driver out it might be worth investigating.. But as I just got my OQO back from repair I don't want to put my hand up !

I installed the atheros update on my Vista e2.  Haven't noticed any side effects yet.  The only updates I haven't installed were S3 drivers.  Since needing to re-image though I haven't had the S3 driver offered to me via WU, which I thought was odd.

Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Performance Information and Tools\Advanced Tools reported that my Atheros driver was causing Windows to standby or hibernate slowly. The date was 15th July and not since then... this however was enough to make me update the Atheros driver from Windows Update. The other factor was that sometimes the network switched off unexpectedly (OQOManager black window showed it to be off).

Standby and wake up are a lot faster now!!
Standby: screen goes black as soon as I push the button, fan stops in 5 s
Wake up: logon screen is back in 1 s, then after password and enter Win is back in 1-2 s

My BIOS is set to use the 4th power state, I got that hint from this forum.

I'm having signal strength issues too. Maybe I'll try this one unless it doesn't work. Can anyone confirm what is improved by the update? Thanks.  Cool

I installed the update and my signal is much better now. No problems so far with connectivity. Let's hope it stays that way.Why doesn't OQO tell us when n update is good to install? I'm definitely too afraid to install the IDT update now that my audio was finally fixed.

Cheers.  Cool Cool Cool Cool
