'LOL you are allready talking about it like those dreams would definitly come true.'
I only want to launch my modest opinion of what would be... nothing more.
MID run WinXP and Vista. Intel say.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/04/02/MIDs-will-run-Windows-XP-and-Vista-Intel-says_1.html
The MID attach PDA market... but better...Mobile Devices. Anywhere Anytime concept OQO use.
I think a low cost model must have an active digitizer or touch screen. See Gigabyte 4,8 Screen or Cowon 5 wiht capacitive touch screen. It is a every time a cheaper component. And a must have in any mobile device.

Compared with OQO 01? Yes. Compared with an Gigabyte M528, for example? No. I think OQO 02 SSD is hot... I have to use it with executive case, and with cooler option. I give to non technical people the OQO, and the comment is... ' ..oh...is hot'
. All. 'It's very nice' too
Most non technical people haven't held a Vista computer in their hands. They are use to PDAs. An OQO that runs Vista, is hand held and generates as little heat as it does is amazing. Any technical person would know this the second they put it in their hands.

Yes but i'm sure OQO with Atom is cooler.
See this Comparing OQO to M528
http://www.umpcportal.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3393&forum=29
'Noise; M528 wins. Its silent.
Heat. M528 wins. Its cool.'
I really bet for an OQO with Atom in the low cost 'slim' model.
Noise and heat are aspects very important for the end user, more in some terms than performance. And if you want performance we always can put Atom Dual Core OQO, not?

The thing is, you aren't dealing with a full tower desktop. You can't just "put in" a faster processor (or new motherboard, or more RAM, or a second disk, or another fan). The m528 is a nice MID but it has a significantly slower processor (versus the current OQO processor) only 512MB of RAM and 4GB Of 'disk' space (before you install an OS).
Replacing those components is what makes the OQO hotter, louder, pricier, and far more capable.
If you don't need the capability, don't buy the OQO.

I know this
Please...
There is planned M528, same form factor, with next atom dual core. All this info is in internet. It is possible.
See Wilcom D4. too.
And I love my OQO, and recommend it for my customers, but want a better OQO...is so bad...
But the idea is.... we want an entry level OQO? How specs must have?
I think this:
Atom 1.3 1Gb
8Gb SSD
New
SD slot
New
USB 2.0
BT
With XP or Vista.
The same form factor or slim model
Price 700$ and 800$ with 3G for compete with low cost MIDs
Today i see Acer Aspire One, it has 8 Gb ssd and sd slot option. I love this for entry level OQO.

Well those Acer Aspire One are said to be very sensitive... a low cost UMPC would be the ASUS EEE (while I say it's too big for being an UMPC...).
Well, one thing - you can't expect a computer being as small as possible with the performance of a modern desktop for the price of a low cost model... So I would try to take out as much as possible, whatfor for example would a SD slot be good for? If someone wants to use SD cards, an external USB SD Reader also does it.

I don't want one a low cost netbook...there is a lot in the market.
I love the OQO compact form factor, and slot SD permits increment store space easily.
The USB connector is only if you don't use frecuently... but in this case SD must be inserted permanently.
I like the idea a lot and is a cheaper storage expansion option.

Well, I must say I also like SD cards... but an OQO is very small and the more technic stuff you build in there more expensive it becomes of course.

Yes, but i put a cheap 8 gb ssd in contrast...
for XP OS... i think Vista will need 16Gb ssd or more.

those specs would be perfect for a mid.
although i'm looking forward to the gigabyte m528 mid because
I think a mid device with a 1.33ghz/1gb/vista/xp will cost in 4 figures.

I want user like you can purchase an entry level OQO with Atom...and not MID options.
If OQO doesn't offer a solution quickly this customers buy another cheaper solutions.
Put this 'killer MID' configuration at an attractive price and don't lose the oportunity to win MID customers.
Atom 1.3Ghz - 1Gb RAM
New
Touch Screen
4Gb SSD
New
XP requires 1.5
SD slot
New
USB 2.0 - BT
With XP SP3 or Vista SP1.
The same form factor or
slim model
Price 700$ and 800$ with Wifi/3G for compete with low cost MIDs

Uhm folks, why are we talking about "MIDs"... an UMPC isn't always a MID, a MID can be any handheld with internet function (for example an average PDA) while an UMPC is an x86 based small computer. Of course, a MID can also be an UMPC, but normally it's equipped with some RISC CPU which makes it (for me) kinda useless. And MIDs are very cheap these days (starting at 350$ or maybe even less).

Is so important the word?
I think functionality. OQO only must be compared with x86 full blown Windows MIDS (wilcom, aigo, gigabyte, panasonic, viliv, etc.etc.)

Well, not sure how other people would interpret it since MID means for the most a small handheld with some RISC CPU.

'OQO Atom-based was unveiled at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco labelled as "OQO MID".' - Wikipedia
Yes i know... MID is mobile
internet
device, OQO is really a UMPC. But repeat, is so important the technical term or the functionality?
See Asus R50...first was announced as UMPC...now as MID...
So for the end user... the important is what i can do with this. And some MIDs run full blown windows and use x86 processors and similiar and some cases superior technical specs than OQO.
I hope next 'real' moves of OQO ... and how position his new device and models in the market. But i want an entry level slim model... for compite with MIDs.
