I think the screen must be bigger if you quit touchscrollers and all is screen size.
You can obtain a size of 5.6 - 6.5.
You can do it a bit widther like moorestown protoype, and OQO will continue be pocketable.

Placid you can't have everything.  Laws of physics dictate that.  The smaller the computer the more difficult it is to dissipate heat.  You might have to wait another 5 years for what you want.

All thing i say are in new MIDs realesed and ready to buy:

Gigabyte M528, Aigo and Benq. See the specs in Internet please...all are thinner than OQO.
I don't wait 5 years. This type of devices are HERE NOW.  Grin

I hope OQO 03 will be better than this MIDs in this year or Q1 2009. You, kyone, see it, sure  Grin Wink

Can any of these devices run Vista ? Do any of them support 1900 x 1200 HDMI ?  Can any of them have 120G HDD ?

The ones you have pointed out are just toys.

Asus R50A is not a TOY.
It Is realeased, and ready to buy.
Run Vista. 1Gb.
32 Gb ssd
It has touchscreen.
It has GPS.
It has 2 cameras.
Finger reader security.
3G

It's pocketable. 520g

I love OQO... but it's time to renew the Model 02 and launch a hot Model 03 to compete all these devices.

Agree the R50A (199x97x29 mm) is not a toy but it's bigger then the OQO 02 (142x84x25).
http://products.jkkmobile.com/products/?id=152

It doesn't have a keyboard and the Asus has just been produced as compared to an OQO that is years old.

IMO OQO 02 is way ahead.

These comparisons of the OQO to MIDs have got to stop. I just read the first user review of the Benq and it properly compares it not to the OQO (or any other UMPC) but to the Nokia Internet tablet. This is what MIDs are; not little PCs but, rather entertainment devices. They are smartphones minus voice and plus video. It's not to say that they are not a valid market segment, but they are certainly not in the same league as the OQO.

Amen to that Dave (but I can guarantee the debate won't stop there - lol). In my opinion people are trying to compare two different things - how can one compare apples to oranges?

Can you read what OQO put in IDF Intel? Please?

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/20/oqo-prototype-shown-with-intels-atom-inside/
I think OQO is more than a MID... but REPEAT... is so important the word?
The functionality provided by a MID must be in OQO. But OQO must offer more to survive. Sure.

I have an IT friend tha love my OQO but didn't buy one because is so expensive.

He bought an Gigabyte M704 for 700$ and run full windows XP.

Another business customer have ordered aigo P8860 from Direct Japan..because new OQO is not announced and is tired of waiting. The worse if that if he like the device, he put them (10-20) to all his team of field operators.

And the problem is that OQO is OUT OF STOCK... I you want buy one, some models, you can't.... I hope this situation will finish soon.

While, I say to OQO... put an entry level OQO with this features and price:

Intel Atom 1.3
5,6 inches Touch Screen (Multitouch? n-trig DuoSense) without Touchscrollers.
1Gb
8Gb GB SSD
SDHC Slot
USB 2.0 - BT
3G
2 Camera / GPS
OQO HOT Design thinner than actual.

Price: 700$

NOTE: This specs are practically identical to Aigo P8860 ...but i hope for OQO announcement to decide.

PlacidoDomenech has an excellent point.  If a future OQO was longer than it could not only be slimmer but it could provide a touch type keyboard and be more of a clamshell and or clamshell/slider form factor.  That second model would be one that would sell well and overcome competition from MIDS and other UMPC's as OQO has a little more time with their technological advantages.  But if they ignore the form factor and not adapt they might not be around after a few more years...

USI MID has 5inch screen, and is 'slimmest and lightest MID in the world'.
I want next OQO beat this and offer an entry level model of OQO 03 with thinner design so be really pocketable.

While I would like the OQO to be thinner as well, I doubt it can approach the USI's numbers. A good chunk of their "thinner" size is due to the fact that there is no keyboard. If you think about the internals of the OQO, you have to stack up a battery, a motherboard with CPU, a fan, a keyboard, and a screen (plus the frames to hold the battery, main case, and screen. That total defines the OQO's thickness.

If the Atom or the Nano can run significantly cooler so that you would not need a cooling fan (or if another, thinner, cooling scheme exists - Peltier maybe?) you could make the overall stack thinner.

Other than that, the only major savings you could have would be by making the battery a non-removable part of the case (which the MIDs I have seen do). This, however, presents significant tradeoffs to those, like myself, who carry two batteries or those who want the option of an extended battery. On the other hand, if the Atom or Nano power usage would allow five or six hour run time with the same amount of Lithium Ion Polymer that exists in the current battery, moving it into the case (and saving the thickness of the separate battery case) would probably be acceptable to most people.

USI has a model with keyboard, thinner than OQO. I'm sure Atom OQO, confirmed for me seeing the photos in Intel IDF Taiwan, will be thinner and cooler than actual model.

And yes, i'm agreed with you, the battery life is vital spec, and i need 5-6 hours in next model, like actual with double capacity battery... but thinner.

But almost this, i think a thinner and cooler model will make OQO device hot for all type of customers, business and personal.

Thinner + cooler model with 5.6 inch touch screen Atom OQO with a reasonable price could be a real killer device.

current OQO 02 priced at $999 for best would be killer too~

I have a really hard time justifying the $2k+ cost when I can get quadruple the specs in a sub $500 laptop, and the can duplicate a huge amount of tasks with a $150 psp

personally, I think the current OQO formfactor is almost perfect
all it really needs is more oomph

better CPU, 2gb ram, and better battery life

the screen as-is is great, the keyboard is great
the thumb nub is spectacular

just give me more juice in the current form factor, better battery and less heat, and you've got an unbeatable machine
