AMD chips for MID / UMPC / netbooks:

http://www.liliputing.com/2008/11/amds-netbook-plans-boost-battery-life-video-performance.html

And give us, almost for me, two important features:

Boost battery life. They talk from 8-9 hours. This sound very good.
A lot better GPU. (How develop next wave apps in OQO with not graphics power?)

do you really need more gpu than what's in the current OQO 02?

more gpu usually involves exponential increases in power consumption

Yes, i develop in WPF and require directx and graphics power.

Think that win7 apps are most in WPF, calculator, paint, next office, next visual studio, etc.

The actual performance of OQO with WPF is poor. I hope with a better GPU we can develop next wave software...more if we have multitouch capabilities. See Moblin project apps, and see how put new ideas in the power of GPU.

I hope next OQO give us real graphic power, like Tegra promise, Via Nano, S3 or Intel...Now AMD.... which gpu put OQO? We must wait at a release announcement.

Patience is a virtue. I'm sure the 03 will blow us all away. Remember these other companies are just trying to play catch-up to OQO. It's taken them a while to even get close to the 02 and it will take them even longer to catch up to the 03 when it's released.

A touch type clamshell is NOT thumb input and ALL MIDS so far are thumb input NOT true touch type keyboards.  So right now the only format not being produced is a true handheld clamshell.  The flurry of MIDS are very close to the size of an OQO but slimmer and most are running Linux at only $600-700 dollars yet have enough power to run Windows and/or have Windows drivers; so look out OQO I still say you need a longer larger format OQO that is a true handheld clamshell otherwise it will be tough to stay alive.

Very nice MID

Price: $411 very competitive!!
Processor: Atom Z520 OK
SO: WinXP OK
Store:30GB HDD or a 16GBSSD. OK for the most users.
Memory: 1gb , better with 2Gb, but OK
More: WiFi, WiBro, T-DMB TV, camera (2megapixel)

I think this is a good device at a very good price...but we all must hope what OQO will presents in CES 2009.

With no keyboard and a touch screen rather than an active digitizer, one would be hard pressed to use it for much more than an Internet surfer and media player. Also, be aware that the machine may exist only in press releases at the moment. The Trigem global site doesn't mention it except to say that they won a design award for it in January 2008. Still, I would prefer this form factor to the iTouch if I was getting a MID.

what features do you think OQO show in CES to battle this pletora of MID's?

I hope the best and WOW design, sure, and the best MID-UMPC-keyboard but what more?

2Gb of RAM?
Multitouch?
OLED Screen?
WiMAX?
Better performance with Via Nano ...all netbooks and mids put Atom 1.3/1.6...
Better battery life? New MIDs/UMPC can offer 4-9 hours in some cases.
Integrated A-GPS?
Instant OS?
OQO UI?
New accesories?

So what news OQO can show? 1 month for real answers...  Wink

2G RAM yes
Multitouch.. I doubt it, OQO doesnt even have supply a pen with the computer
OLED screen.. good but i doubt it.. too early for that technology, besides the current screen is great.
WiMax.. 3G over GSM is the way to go
Battery life.. is almost simply directly related to battery size 4-9hours on a standard OQO battery not very likely.
GPS.. optional maybe but not standard
Instant OS.. thats up to Microsoft more then OQO
OQO UI.. I hope not.. keep it simple, just use Vista interface

In less then 1 month hopefully we'll all know.  The only thing I want to see in one month is an additional Gig of RAM.

but the following would be nice to have:
I would like to see a docking dongle instead of a docking station.. DVD on computers is sooo last year.
eSATA port on the dongle
More thermal efficient, ie less fan noise
Faster Graphics.. and a bit faster processor to handle the Vista overhead.
Stonger Wifi signal.
Audio of HDMI, at least DTS or 2channel PCM
