I am sure OQO is working on the 03 model.  Do you think they will integrate the voice functionality in to it?

I'd love to carry one less thing in my pocket!

I don't thik so. Perhaps in 05/06?  Grin When moorestown is available.

But i dream with a ONE device like OQO, a bit thinner, like Gigabyte M528, with the same form factor and voice functionality.  Grin Grin Grin at 0 cost, because you buy a data contract with telephony provider.

I buy the iphone at 0, why not some day OQO?

I don't think so but I'd imagine that the 03 will probably run Skype a bit better.

I would hope (and have previously suggested it here) that the OQO3 would be voice enabled.

As I see it, with EVDO (and a Bluetooth headset) the OQO has the bulk of the hardware it needs for limited phone functionality. It should be mainly a matter of software configuration. Still, te functionality would be limited because the OQO would have to be turned on in order to receive incoming calls. An ideal configuration would add a voice specific, always on processor to handle calls.

This is what I want as well.  OQO could do a much better job than HTC.

I should qualify that from what I know, the HTC Shfit is not voice enabled like a cell phone. The always-on processor was designed to work with HTC's 'SnapVUE', a Windows Mobile variant, to provide always-on data access (e.g. push e-mail, SMS, calendar, weather).

I don't doubt that the Shift had the technical capabilities for voice. I think there just wasn't enough of a market for HTC to pursue adding that capability, not to mention possible cannibalisation of their own cell phone business.

Using an x86 processor as a basis for a mobile phone is not really appropriate.  Technically it's not an issue, really quite easy but there are very few people that would use an OQO sized mobile phone especially with the lack of battery life.

I think the OQO WAN should be used for data only.  Throw in voice for the fun of it but technically it wouldn't be practical as your voice contact number.

Yes, i think it's a problem of lack of battery life and size.
I suppose this must be solved by Intel Moorestown in 2009  Grin
In 2008 OQO 02+ Atom  Grin
In 2009 OQO 03 Windows 7 + Cell Phone + Moorestown chip  Grin

I agree. As portable as the OQO is, even if they managed to make it thinner (not smaller for the sake of screen size), I'd not want it to be my primary cell phone. Previous attempts to make similar (Windows Mobile) devices like the Dopod 900 and HTC Advantage have been met with lackluster response. IMHO, the iPhone size is about as large one can stomach as a mobile phone.

P.S. The HTC Shift uses an ARM Qualcomm processor for its always-on connection. The main O/S is driven by an Intel A110 processor.

Why can't i buy an OQO free with data contract? It's a idea that most UMPC, (HTC Shift, Q1 Ultra, etc.) have done with Telefonica in my country, Spain.

Why not next OQO? (With or without phone functionality)

See this and you can imagine OQO 5" without touchscrollers or 4,8" without problems.

Sure, not actual 02 model, hope 03.

I can't imagine it at all when I wonder where the very real problem of the hard drive goes.
