I added the "never" option for those who think that OQO will go bankrupt unless they produce a new Psion or a MID. You know who you are.

I'll start the ball rolling by predicting (based on absolutely no information outside of OQOTalk rumors) a mid-October announcement, possibly at a European trade show (there are no applicable shows in the US in this time frame) and November 10 availability.

When have we news from OQO?
I don't think OQO renew stock from models out of stock with old models. Expansys says 28 October.

I think OQO 03 with Atom is release in October / Novembet.

I hope this features:

OQO 5.6" dual mode screen (touch / active digitizer)
1.6 Atom
Real GPU
2Gb RAM
32/64/128 SSD
Camera front & rear + GPS
Better battery life.Cooler.
Drop prices.

See how Asus innovate from ASUS R2 to R50. I hope the same or more from OQO. Wink

Most of the previous features are in Asus R50, a direct rival for OQO 03.
And the cost is 1.300 euro.

It might not be this year but if all they do is continue with no changes to that old form factor my prediction is by 3-5 years you might have a clasic with no parts available.

Primaz, if OQO hasn't heard you yet, they never will.  Considering having a half dozen hijacked threads on form factor is driving me away, I would suspect you're driving away the very people you and the rest of us want to be listening.

Please start a single form factor thread and leave the discussion there.

I think it is likely that there will be a staged launch of the new model due to limited stock availability. Probably starting in the US and with Europe to follow 2-4 weeks later. I would guess that based on the stock levels shown on people like eXpansys' websites they will have sold most of their stock within a few weeks. Supliers seem to be selling new models in Europe at lower prices than you can buy 2nd user ones on ebay. So whilst this pricing will speed up the selling of held stock, it will severely damage the resale value of 2nd user OQO 02 and e2's.

As the US suppliers starting making special offers first, with European suppliers following a few weeks later this would back up an initial US only launch. I would guess an extended pre order period of 4-6 weeks prior to shipping, to help build up stock levels prior to commencement of shipping.

If they are going to do a 4-6 preorder delivery and want to get in to the Christmas market for exec toys they would need to launch in the US WC 13th October and Europe by 1st Novemebr. I think these dates are key to any product that has a consumer bias.

As for my wish list, SD card (or equivalent) 2gb memory, more speed. In addition a fully supported Linux OS as an option. Finally if it can go on a bit of a diet and loose a few mm around the thickness I would be a very happy customer.

But I wonder if there may be more than 1 product on the drawing board? Firstly an updated version of what we already have and a 2nd product aimed more at the low end mass market that p____Z seems to be all hot and bothered about. I certainly hope the 2nd one is on the drawing board as then our mass posting friend might actually fall silent.

If we were talking about Dell or Lenovo (or even Asus) I might agree with you. However, like OQO the product, OQO the company is small. Two products would require two development teams, two manufacturing efforts, two marketing efforts, two inventories (including a different set of replacement parts), and two support efforts. I just don't see OQO as large enough to handle that.

Perhaps in six months we might see a second product but I hope that the first product is the OQO plus, not the low end OQO minus.

I was just thinking about that today actually. I'd love to see the next generation OQO with a Linux OS option (preferably Mandriva). Others like HP, Asus and Acer are doing it and the Linux models appear to be quite popular. 2GBs of memory and an inbuilt SD card reader would be fantastic too, but I doubt that either of those will happen. Does anyone know how official Linux support is going? Have any of the Linux distros officially yet classified the OQO as being supported on the hardware lists? Huh

@Placido - I was up in Perth today and saw a HP notebook with the dual touch-screen. The actual computer didn't do much for me but I was very impressed with the dual touch capability.

I prefer OQO center in Windows world, but can be compatible with the rest of OS (Linux/ OS X / etc.)

See the path HP has done in succesful HP Touchsmart...
Innovate in Windows with and OQO with the performance to do the same.
Atom 1.6 + 2Gb + GPU + Multitouch Only that... Please  Grin

The next model needs 2G, 1G is a bottle neck..

With the failures people are reporting I do hope that the next model has a SD slot.  I want to be able to keep critical files on this card.  If the OQO fails I just remove the card and use another computer.

I hope to see the next OQO announced at CES2009

Um, yeah.  Good luck with that! We've tried polite suggestion and all out begging him to stop ... nothing has worked so far.

I too would love to have more RAM.  That's the only thing for me that I feel the OQO could use more of.  (typed on my OQO thumb keyboard...)

I would guess that if it has nothing else the OQO3 will have an Atom processor and 2GB of RAM. Performance is one of the few things that OQO can use to distinguish its UMPC from the lower cost MIDs and with MIDs running the same processor, RAM becomes crucial (if not Crucial). In fact, I'd push for 4GB (even though Vista can only use 3) in anticipation of the next Windows.

Really? Huh I didn't know that. What does Vista do with the RAM beyond 3GBs? I've seen a fair few with 4GB lately - does the remainder just sit there idle?
