I sincerely hope it's a nano in there. I really could care less about the other details, as I'm sure OQO will use tech that makes it compete.

The 02 is nice right now, and if the 03 never came out, I would be happy to get it.

I agree with dlach on the syndrome thing. I think folks on this board, put too much stock into OQO personnel reading this forum. I would say a good 8 to 9/10s of the people who own an oqo don't even know this board exist.

It is great that they do! But seriously it is in OQOs best interest to not announce a new product until it's ready to ship. All of the rumors that are being discussed on here, are just that rumors. Getting worked up on rumors is pointless.

The comment on the iphone being able to take over the oqo niche. I think most of you don't really understand the niche oqo has. The iphone do all the things the normal computer user might want. But it is still a toy compared to an oqo.

One is a computer, and the other a ipod on steriods.

Your iphone wont compile code, it wont let you work on 3d modeling, or cad. It wont let you do anything a real computer does.

Those that keep talking about how iphone is the future really should stop wasting there money on an oqo, as all the clearly need exists for them in a $400-500 package.

Just my 2 cents.

I hope OQO arrival soon, and Nano put the best performance in your pocket, better than Atom, but i don't care for this. I'm sure OQO 03 soon or later will be announced and released, but OQO need to give better support to their customers.

Syndrome? Call it so. But a lot of people have it. Question you why? It's true...this OQO forum isn't all OQO users... but i think it is representative...do you think not?

The frontier between phone / mids / umpc are thinner with the time. Yes OQO is an unique device, full Windows pocketable, but if you want 50% of power of an OQO (web browsing, pmp, office) , you see other posibilities... iTouchs, cheaper MIDs (with XP compile code Grin), netbooks etc. I only say, why not put a cheap new OQO for this people... A model for low end customers...and others models for high end business users. A range of prices...like all providers, not? Why OQO only must be a niche market product? Because is little company?

The topic is 'Whe will the OQO 03 be available?', expansys store put 28 October as date of new stock or OQO 03 available. Grin

Yes.  Because OQO is comparatively small and the cost of developing, stocking and supporting each product line is enormous.  OQO must pick its battles carefully and grow quite a bit bigger than it is before it can do more than support the one currently shipping product line and three  variants it has now.  I think it is probably a bit of a stretch to support the variants already.  With each new product line it will have to phase out the old until it is big enough.

I have no doubt that there will be a new OQO model soon, I would expect something no later than the beginning of the year.   Maybe sooner if they've really cut down inventory, it might even be at the end of the month, but I kind of doubt it.  Even if they really settled on the design shown at IDF, it takes a few months to ramp up the manufacturing pipeline.

2disbetter:
As for the difference between the iPhone and the OQO, well of course, the iPhone is not geared toward the same market as the OQO.  Even so, in Taiwan where they run their iPhones unlocked and have no appstore restrictions, the 3rd party apps have made the iPhone much more like a small computer.    Any points I've made on the subject though have not been direct comparison the iPhone and OQO but rather have been along the lines of what a small step it would be for Apple to expand upon the iPhone/Ipod touch idea to create something new to enter the market.  It could be a small step or a big one.  For example what if the net book is evidence of demand for something that isn't really a netbook.  What if something that straddles the functionality of iPhone, OQO, Netbook and laptop came along....would it take take the world by storm?   If something like the iPhone could be part of a modular system that could fill all of these functions, perhaps taking advantage of a gpu in a the "laptop shell", perhaps clipping on a keyboard for clamshell, or slipping into netbook shell.  What if you could start with just the core and expand the system?  I don't know, maybe short product lifecycles make everything I just said impractical but this is the kind of advanced, market changing thinking that Apple has shown itself capable of.

So I'm not really worried about competition in OQO's niche, I'm worried something will come along that will devour its niche.

'When will the OQO 03 be available?', expansys in spain delayed entry, putting 18 November as date of new stock or OQO 02+ / 03 ¿?¿??¿  available / preorder.

I think OQO is waiting OQO 02 is really out of stock.

I don't know about you, but I am dying with all the waiting and the real need I have for an improved OQO.  I'm not even referring to a better model in reference to options.  Just one that works well.  If I would tell you how many units I have been through, no one would believe me.  Yet, I love what it did for me when it worked.  I've been through many RMA's and even more units bought and returned to local stores.  It's not because I'm too pretentious, but that everything that could go wrong, did.

I've been through cracked antenna covers, raster issues, chainsaw sounding fans, blue screen of death, burnt pixels, bad keyboard, toy-rattling 2x batteries, the ever annoying lcd flashlight effect on the bottom of the screen and so on.  Yet, believe it or not, I absolutely love OQO.   I have been without one for two months and I am hurting.  I need one so much that I check this forum several times a day hoping to see the wonderful news of a new unit.  Yes, I see all the models available here and there, but I am afraid of the bugs.  I am hoping all these will be worked out for the new unit.  Maybe we should have a poll on the things we don't want in the new unit, like the issues we have experienced.

Until then, I am side stepping to a Samsung Q1 with 2gb Ram, 80gb HD, and Intel solo 1.33.  Oh, I paid $1095 for it.  The  specs sound great, but the size will be hard to get used to.

Also, I miss the beautiful OQO screen.  I have a great belt hanging leather pouch from Expansys for the OQO.  I took it everywhere.  Anyway, I'm venting.  Yeah, I saw that great sale in Sept. that sold the units almost at half price.  Yet, I also read the complains from the people that bought those units.  I don't have the strength any more to explain the problems to tech and go through returns.  I don't have the time either.

Nevertheless, OQO staff has treated me right through all the ordeals I went through.  Dennis was and is a gentleman.  I am so sorry he is gone.  I hope he will succeed in the field he chose.  He is a boss anyone would be grateful to work with or for.

All this to say, I feel like we are all pregnant and overdue.  It hurts but we all are hoping for healthy and beautiful baby OQO.  Ha, ha....

Thanks to all of you for the great input on this forum.

OQO is not perfect sure, but it is the device i used all day except in the office. And i love it but want some little features repeated constantly in this forum. 2gb, touch screen, better performance, battery life and cooler.

I hope OQO 03 improve OQO 02 and OQO team do the thing better than before.
They are the more interested in that will succeed.

I hope soon we will have real news from OQO, sure Wink

will the new model be an 02+ or an 03?

the difference is the form factor

if the new model has the same form factor as the current 02, it is an 02+, whatever it is named

if the new model has a different form factor, it is an 03

different form factor means a different display size, product size, open/close style, keyboard size, etc

same form factor means the same design with different processor, different memory size, different mass storage size, new internal features, etc

02+ shipping in october
03 shipping later than 1st quarter

Not necessarily. The name doesn't have to be changed (or stay the same) each time cosmetic changes are made to the exterior. If OQO have found a form factor that works for them and their customers, they might decide to stick with it. Apple have demonstrated this many times over. The iMac has changed considerably over the years from the G3 design to the G4 design to the G5 design and yet they decided to keep the same iMac name. The PowerMac is an even better example - remember the old beige G3s then the blue and white G3s then the many subsequent silver designs after. Again the PowerBook and MacBook Pro had the exact same design and yet they decided to change the names. I can't say for sure but I think we'll probably find that the current 02 design will be here for a long time. I personally can't see any radical changes in the design any time soon (but that's my speculation).

I can't see much point in the endless conjecture. I have not voted because I don' t see the point.

OQO has always been a rather secretive organisation that has insisted on doing things its own way. They will change their models and their support methods only when they are good and ready to do so.

In our turn we have to decide if their latest offerings provide value for money in our individual circumstances.

I for one have enough difficulty trying to establish the best method of use of the OQO 02 I own. This board has been my life-line on numerous occasions and I am extremely grateful for its existence. May it grow and prosper !

Roger, I agree. I've not voted either because I find it rather pointless. I doubt anyone here (not working for OQO) is any more informed than the rest.
Man, I thought things like this only happens on Apple boards. Wink

Probably the release of the new OQO 03 will depend on the availability of the suitable microprocessor for the small factor OQO. And it seems that there the Via Nano and the Intel Atom are the major players. Single core vs dual core, TDP (about 7.5 W or less), etc.

When have we news from OQO?
I don't think OQO renew stock from models out of stock with old models. Expansys says 28 October.
I think OQO 03 with Atom is release in October / Novembet.

Well, the 28 October is over. Any news?

Yesterday expansys delayed to 18 November, and put some models with high prices.  Cry
Today Expansys delayed more models and the info say 'Order by requirement' without date.

The situation is bad for our customers that want some high models (64 GB SSD + HSDPA), i must purchase basic models or hope for OQO news. This occurs since June-July, 6 months practically...someone see this normal? Cry

But i bet OQO release soon OQO 03  Wink ...when excactly? Nobody know.
