I've got a Sony DR-BT22 bluetooth headphone (as a birthday present  Cheesy) and it works well with the e2 as a BT headphone. When trying to use it with Skype or Windows Live Messenger though, its microphone is not working. I suspect that for getting the mic to work I need to turn on the HFP/HSP mode together with A2DP but I see no software settings in the OQO BT Manager or in the headphone's manual. Am I on the wrong track?

You need to use the HFP/HSP profile when you want to use Skype and it will be mono.  When you want stereo or media controls, use A2DP.  I haven't seen any device that let's use use the simultaneously, although most will switch almost instantly.

According to its manual the DR-BT22 does have a mode when HFP/HSP and A2DP are both connected but I don't know how to get there. I think the BT Manager would let me choose which profile I want (HFP/HSP and/or A2DP) but I cannot see it...

I've got it  Grin
When making a new connection in BT Manager, choose Custom mode and one of the screens will give options including the Headset Profile. This connection will then work with Skype etc.
