I've been a true OQO fan for the past couple of years. It's painful to say but we have to admit, OQO has not done enough to ride on it's momentum in a niche market to expand and become a leader of the emerging portable computing field! What a shame!

As much as I still appreciate my OQO 2, my honest opinion: unless OQO comes up with something innovative soon, LIKE NOW, this cool brand and it's products are going down! It's a pity!

Well, just another cool product in my collection. It sits nicely next to my Apple Newton MessagePads, U.S. Robotics Palm Pilot, and EO Communicators!

I think OQO 02+ / OQO 03 will be announced soon. This year. And we can see it in CES 2009...because if not... OQO is dead...yes...and put it with Apple Newton, MessagePads, Palm Pilot, etc.

But we must hope what OQO Team are preparing...but i'm agreed with you... OQO don't take care with the momentum... The oportunity they have had... but the time say it OQO is preparing the best UMPC of the market at a reasoneable price or another more of the same ... OQO with Atom and nothing more... and practically users buy another type of devices Apple iPhone iTouch / MIDs / netbooks.

I put support in OQO devices like software developer and hope OQO give us an innovative product soon...very soon.  Wink

I don't agree with you. In my opinion, even now without the release of the 03, OQO are still light years ahead of any other UMPCs on the market. I personally believe that OQO are going to be here to stay for quite some time.

Well I sincerely hope that OQO does a "Newton", before the Newton days Apple had little focus on consumer products and , most IT people did not take Apple seriously. Their customer base was pretty exclusivly in the media world.

Post Newton (PN) Apple went on to buy the Next OS which was a Unix based product. This went on to become the OSX core... which went on to become Tiger.... Leopard.... the core of the IPOD touch .... iPhone..... but remember this all came PN.

The guys involved in the Newton probably gave some of their ideas to the people who left Apple to go on to build the OQO company. So I guess the OQO contains "Newton DNA". Wow that could be a good chat up line. A variant on "is that a pistol in your pocket...." "No my tool shoots  Newton DNA.....

All of the sucesses at Apple came PN. So lets all just keep our fingers crossed and hope that OQO does a Newton.

I think that "doing a Newton" is quite a catchy phrase. I think I will use it in a few marketing  presentations.

I don't think OQO are still light years ahead of any other UMPC.
See the price and features of M528, Wilcom D4 or Asus R50a.
There is one thing that put OQO ahead (for me)... the form factor.
The size, pocketable and the keyboard with a 5 inches is near perfect for me, but this don't mean that OQO is ahead of any UMPC. It is my opinion. But if i can purchase an UMPC, i buy OQO, sure.

OQO has Apple DNA, everyone know it..the question is if OQO will die as Newton or can be an innovative product? OQO will put Atom or Nano + 2Gb + SSD options, and perhaps touch screen with the same form factor. Easy soluton that will do happy most users but is it enough for stay in the market?

OQO's are being dumped from online retailers fast, with nothing new to replace them

02+ or 03 needs to be announced prior to christmas, or there's a good chance oqo doesn't exist at this point next year

I wasn't aware they were ever available from "on line retailers" (other than OQO).  What possible benefit would there be to introduce a middleman? Since 2004, OQO has been selling direct. At least to the US market. And selling to others through their "partners".  Sure, I'd love to go to my local Radio Shack to get some hands-on experience with a new product (before buying direct from OQO) but on line, why? Only if I were forced to by some policy that prevented me from buying direct.

I bought my first 02 from Tiger Direct last year, my second a couple of months ago from Expansys USA when they blew-out their 'better' models for $750... and I know CDW carried them when I was looking.  Even when I was considering a corporate purchase and talked to OQO'a sales department, the 'discounts' weren't much to talk about...  Oh, and BTW, when the 02 from Tiger arrived, it was quickly apparent that it was defective.  When I contacted OQO, their only option was to send it in for repair and wait.  Tiger cross-shipped a replacement and I had it in two days...

I guess I'd turn your question around and ask: Why would I spend more or get less service by buying directly from OQO?

Oh, and back to the original topic of this discussion.  Tikker, I agree with all your points totally.

I'm totally agreed with Tikker. Actually, and this is a REAL situation , almost in Spain, since June. I'm not speculating. I don't understand in this forum people saying that. I understant OQO only announce a product when is ready, but when OQO 02 is OUT OF STOCK in online retailers (some models e2 SSD+HSDPA sure)... you must say something to your customers. Perhaps tomorrow everybody have an OQO 03 for buying it, but this situation is from 5 months ago... Cry We need an explication.

Ronc, I bought all OQOs in online stores. I can't buy direct from Spain, sorry. Cry

The new stock entry almost in Expansys is 28 October. I hope until then. Wink

Do you imagine this new OQO? An agreement with Apple to put Mac OS X in it. That would be a real REVOLUTION!!!

Never going to happen, Apple makes too much money from its hardware sales, and it got burned before by clone makers.

Sure, but if Apple is not going to make an OQO-form-factor device, why not allow to license the Mac OS X for it? Both parties win!

Possibly, I guess I've just found that the OQO has been perfect for my needs hence my enthusiasm.

hey, I bought and resold mine within a month, but I'm still hoping to see one come out that meets my needs

I love the form factor, the sliding screen, the active digitizer

i just need better battery, less heat, more cpu/ram and it would be perfect
