As one of the largest retailers of OQO (may be the largest?), we would really not like to see the site go away.  We would certainly be willing to be the sole sponsor and handle all the server/bandwidth/etc. costs.  It should be more than a good value for us, since we will get to stay close to the OQO community.  What does everyone think of that?

Personally, I'd have no problem with it, as long as Dynamism abstained for exercising editorial control over posts or content.

Grand idea!

Go for it Troy before they change their mind, get a multi year contract for your expenses and and be done with it.

Doing this lets us know that this site that many of us view as critical and an extremely valuable resource is not going to be unplugged because of financial issues or waning interest.

I would wholeheartedly support the idea. I bought my OQO from elsewhere but I'd be more than happy to switch to Dynamism for the OQO3. It's not like there's much price competition between retailers.

Dynamism has always been on my short list of electronics sites. Currently I'm trying to talk myself into the Armani phone. I think it would match my OQO nicely.

Hi Troy,

Just to reiterate my interest and commitment, I would be happy to assist with moderating the site.  There is a possibility that I would consider hosting the site myself as well.  I have resources here in Seattle that would make it cost-effective.

As an OQO owner for nearly a year, this site has proven itself to be invaluable, and not just for OQO-related queries.  I would be very upset to just see the site die, especially when I know that I can help.

I'll PM you as well.  Thank you for all you and Picasso have done so far!!

I wouldn't do it for expenses only. The expenses are miniimal, and I own the web hosting company. It's the advertising value of the site that would have to drive the ad value. Let me know via PM what you think would be fair for an exclusive header ad for Dynamism, and we can go from there.

Great idea! As long as no spyware was involved I'd have no problems with Dynamism sponsoring and advertizing on the site.

Hi,

just som ideas from the other side of the world and a community, which is around a third the size of the citizens of the US: Germany.

1. OQO cant operate the site because they are party and the conflict of interest to some potential voiced opinions is big enough. Such a thing would mot probably reduce the amount of authors here which would lead to less attractivity.

2. To operate a site is financially from a technical perpective not really expensive... So the site was maybe constructed to earn money. But these kind of revenues, I personally doubt for long to be able to be created on the internet in general.

3. I personally dont make use of sites with too many ads because it is simply confusing. As a European, frequently visited the US, I was really shocked about the small amount of information I received by watching TV-news in the US because the relation between info and ads was so odd, that I wondered, where the citizens of the US gather their information about the world from. TV is definately no source of information. Therefore I doubt about the usability of this site in the future.

I hope, these thoughts are helpful.

Regards,

Michael

Too many don't gather any information about the world.

Troy, as an Asian international customer with no direct OQO retail nor support options, Dynamism has literally been my life-line and I've nothing but good things to say about the OQO sales & support folks there. I'd be in a favour of a Dynamism banner ad for this site. Thanks.

I bought my OQO from OQO, but I have bought numerous Zaurus palmtops from Dynamism and generally been a very happy customer.  As long as they kept an editorial firewall, I can't think of a better organization to support this site, and (especially for us linux users) it is far too valuable to lose. . . .

Troy

Sorry to read site for sale. OQO use for me would have been a lot less interesting without it and I would not have dared attempt the hard disk drive replacement I carried out without the help and encouragement received here. Thank you for operating it so well for so long.

I understand that I am like many others as I have not visited the site for sometime.

My OQO remains unrestored from the back-up I made a few days before the HDD went down. OQO has supplied me with a requested Xp downgrade disk which I intend to use because I remain unimpressed with the performance of Vista on both my OQO and a desktop Acer even when SP1 installed. In the meantime I have been experimenting with backup and restore strategies between household and gardening chores.

My OQO is just great. My great disappointment came with the poor experience I had roaming in the UK with the ISPs 3 and T-mobile. Even in London, download speeds were glacially slower than my home speed of around 5000kbps even though I have a 7200kbps capable Option USB modem. I usually measured around 500kbps at best. The anywhere anytime experience in the UK was reasonably successful but extremely disappointing.

What really soured me on return was supply of an unsolicited PCMCIA modem by Telstra BigPond with a charge of $400 more on my most recent account. I never opened the package and after several hours of fruitless call centre calls and return of the modem package I had to revert to the Australian Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman to get to the specially established support level which arranged my refund with one short call.

So I guess I will be finding less time to visit OQOTalk in any case.

I doubt I would buy another OQO while the support available locally in Australia is so abysmal and I experience the ongoing difficulty of having to subscribe to a proxy provider to be really able to see what OQO are doing and readily obtain OQO 02 driver upgrades. For me the international site just does not work and I see no commercial reason why it continues to be unavailable in Australia where the tel-co O2 does not operate.

Dear Troy:

As with Roger, I also want to express my gratitude to you for this site.  Since I've relocated from America to Asia, I've been unable to directly access the US-OQO website.  The international website is but a shadow of the US one.  I wanted to purchase an OQO 02 but since I can only purchase the e2 models (which I do not want since I will return to the US) internationally, I ended purchasing Vaio UX.

I still visit this site to see if there are any new developments but actual news has been scarce.  It is unfortunate that OQO likes to keep mum on any news whether good or bad but your site has helped me retain interest in OQO.  Hopefully, you'll be able to find a good solution amenable to your situation.  Thanks for your sacrifice and service!

Off-topic here, but I really hate it that OQO insists on selling the e2 model only outside of the US. I am aware there OQO has legal issues with the use of the 'model 02' name in Europe but as an Asian customer, I shouldn't be affected.
I'm currently required to switch from the default e2/UK keyboard layout to the US keyboard layout each time I want to use an external keyboard (US keyboards are the common standard here). It also irks me that I had ordered a model 02 from Dynamism US but they shipped me a model e2 instead.  Sad

For international based users who still want to check in on the OQO US site once in a while, you can try using either http://anonymizer.nntime.com/ to surf, or install Hotspot Shield.

Not that you'd find anything news-worthy at either the US or international sites. OQOTalk is still my primary source of OQO information. Thanks again, Troy.

I hope that Dynamism (or somebody) comes to our rescue soon. Running my search on Google News for "OQO" I found that we are no longer unique:

"Opponent's Quality, On Base Plus Slugging Average (OQO) is the aggregate on base plus slugging average of all batters faced by a pitcher."

God forbid the sabermetricians buy the site to talk about the relative merits of pitchers.
