Just wondering if anyone have experience with the fan not working at all anymore.  The fan doesn't spin at all anymore in my oqo, no matter what the setting I set at using the oqo manager.

Obviously, the machine overheats and shut down because of this, it's out of warranty already, so I'm thinking of opening it up and see if there is just a loose connection somewhere.  Otherwise, does anyone have a broken oqo with a working fan that I can buy the parts out of?

I remember a previous post about fans. They are an off the shelf part. So if you carefully take your OQO apart and check the part number on the back, you can then Google it and find a supplier. But whatever you do, dont try turning it on again till fixed. Overheating can cause memory errors, disk errors or fry the processor. All of these are potentially terminal to the relevant part. Some machines, I am not sure about OQO, do not have an overheat cut out till the OS is booted so beware!

Did the fan make a rubbing noise before quitting or did it just quit?  It could be a fan problem but it could also be a controller problem.  Some units have had a problem with the fan rubbing which could then theoretically contact the shell enough to make it stop altogether.

No, no unusual noise before it quit.  It didn't have any signs of dying before it died.  Nothing like slow speed or anything.  It just stopped quitting.  I hope it's not the controller.  That doesn't sound like a simple fix.

Okay.  Opened the unit up, turn out one of the fan blade was out of place and almost broken.  And during my handling of the unit, it broke off.

Now that I reassembled, the fan started spinning again (the broken blade was probably caught is something before).  But now that a blade is missing, the fan is unbalanced and make a lot more noise.  So I think I will try to find a replacement fan if possible.  But at least now it works.

This is the label off the back

I can't find any information on obtaining a new parts.  Anybody can help on obtaining this part?  (maybe someone have a completely broken OQO?)

At least it's workable now that if I can't find a fix for it, I can still use it until O3 come out. Smiley

In case you cannot find a replacement, if the fan has even number of blades then you could cut off a second one on the opposite side for balance. This will probably reduce the airflow and cooling effect but it would spin smoothly.

Obviously it uses 5 volts DC.
Can you post a pic?
Does it look like any of these?

I'll post some pictures if I open it up again.  But it doesn't look like a stock part, it is part of the piece that form the air vent in the OQO.  It looks like it's custom molded.
