Oh, alright. Thanks man,  you're the greatest! I really appreciate your hard work on this. I showed my friend my OQO with Ubuntu on it, he's like in AWE! Wishes his Sony P would have it! Now he's pissed and said he should have bought the OQO off eBay he was looking at so he can dual-boot!

Does anyone know if I do the updates on this, WITHOUT going to 9.04, will it still work on the OQO? Mine is telling me that there are like 301 updates to do but I'm not sure to do it since you (galtoid) said that going to 9.04 won't work.

galtoid,

Thanks for the reply. I remember you saying NOT to go to 9.04 but I didn't know if the 8.10 security issues could be installed without messing it up. Now I know what I'm doing tonight!

I did all the updates and upgrade last night just to see what would happen. When I woke rebooted the machine and all seems to be well to me.....Guess I should put it in the dock and see if all works on it as well.

Granted I dont use sleep and such always shutdown.

Cool.. the problems I ran into come into play  when the wifi/Atheros driver changes from madwifi to ath5k in the later kernel versions (Jaunty/Karmic post 2.6.27).   I have ported the old madwifi drivers to the latest kernel, but still have some hibernate/suspend issues to work out.   Other than that, everything is noticeably snappier with 2.6.30+.   Unfortunately, all my code is still on my dead 02, so I need to get it fixed first before I can put up a dpkg repository for these updates.  I also ported the entire 2.6.27 input subsystem to 2.6.31, but I think I can back those changes out now.   The plan is to get everything running well with Karmic and do another release..

Hi galtoid!

I notice that your last message (quoted above) was in early August. Has there been any progress since then? I think there are a lot of us anxiously awaiting to see what you've come up with! I think the latest kernel is at 2.6.55, so I just wanted to see if everything is okay with you.

Sincerely,
- Bill

I'm still running on a half-broken model 02.. my wifi doesn't work at all and also my docking connector isn't working either.  I need to get it fixed so I can get a Karmic build out there.  Sad  I will check on that now.

I did give the latest VIA/S3 video drivers a shot, but haven't been able to get the panel to play nice.  You end up getting the bottom 1/8th of the screen wrapped around to the top.

Thank you!  Smiley

I have it running on my OQO 02 and everything works great except for one...

...when I do a shutdown, it finishes with a blinking cursor at the top left side of a blank screen. How can I get it to actually shut down the OQO?

Thanks again for a *GREAT* job on this ... up until now, I could never use my Wifi connection while in Linux, and now I can!  (And I'm very happy about this!)

- Bill

P.S. By "it", I mean your original ISO.  Wink

I realize this is off topic and I am sorry, just thought it might get a response here.

I was hoping one of you guys might be able to help me out.  I am trying to run Backtrack on my OQO 01.  BT3 boots up and everything seems to work, except the screen which look monochrome/ugly and slightly distorted, which I believe is do to the graphics driver (should be siliconmotion driver?).  BT4 freezes before it finishes booting, and needs to boot to install.

So I am stuck in a quandry.  BT3 is a live usb so I cant edit the xorgconf file, and since BT4 is a live USB as well I have the same problem.

I know at least trf has gotten it to boot and work, but I haven't been able to get ahold of him.

Any ideas?
