OQO, Inc. announces the new model 2+ with the Intel Atom processor, the world’s first PC OLED display, and worldwide 3G capability. Based on the 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor and 2GB RAM, the OQO model 2+ offers performance up to twice as fast as its predecessor and includes an embedded touchscreen for easier input.

Will be shown at CES and also  the night pre CES @ "Digital Experience!" for some hands on time.

My take on the "2+" name is same case new guts and screen. I have not seen it yet. Anyone at OQO want to let me play with one?

Doesn't sound too bad. Not crazy about the touch screen, I really liked the active digitizer.

The increase in ram is nice, and potential performance boost is also nice.

I'd also assume that current accessories would also be compatible with the 02+.

The screen sounds interesting. I was under the impression that OLED's were ultra-thin, so if it is fitted into the same case, then what takes up the created space behind it?  Supposedly, graphics and game play will now become better and hopefully it will run at cooler temperatures.

Likewise, interested to see the pricing.  Today (so far) no prices on any supplier site.

Oh well, patience is a virtue, (I suppose!!) which pays off in the end. Smiley

Yes the screen Id love to learn more about. Not many makers of OLED screens. Can it be Sony selling them the screen? I would think we would see that on a Sony product if that is the case.

Edit: Later learned Samsung was the provider of the OLED screen, As OQO was set to fund production of the 02+ Samsung killed the OLED line for OQO. Because of this and other supply problems funding did not come for the 02+ and OQO closed.

2disbetter ,
Good point on the accessories, maybe that is why the "2+" name.

Any comments on OLED in the sun?

I am looking to buy this new one. If it still has the active digitizer with the added touch then I am sold. If not I will pass. Touch does not work well with handwriting.

I have tried various programs with iphone and touch is a bad handwriting experience.

Now that really is a great spec. I will just have to hope that price is affordable. Strange time of year for them to make a press release.

Wooohoooo!!!!  This is going to be sweet with the OLED screen.  Personally I think there were enough changes to call it a Model 03.

I think it's going to be expensive though, over $1500 for a base model.

Agreed, the OLED display sounds great - less power and visible in direct sunlight.   I too would really like to see an active digitizer in addition to the (hopefully capacitive) touch.
I'm sure this will not be cheap, I'm guessing around $1900 for the model Picasso describes.

I would guess that the press release (from the Digital Experience organizer, not from OQO) is describing the "best" model. Given that currently the base model has a relatively inexpensive screen and slow processor, I would not be surprised if the new base model ran XP, had a 1.33GHz Atom, had only 1GB of RAM, did not have an OLED screen and, was touch only (I'm assuming the "best" model has touch and an active digitizer). That way they could keep the entry level price down, maybe even under $1000.

Not that I care. I want the fancy one.  Grin

And as soon as I get it I'm going to start complaining that it doesn't have the dual core Atom, Ion graphics and 4GB of RAM.  Wink

That sounds great, since having Intel Atom inside it is probably much easier to make the full Mac OS X 10.5.6 boot and work on it.

Now, if it had nVidia Ion platform as well and Firewire, that would be perfect.

I wonder if OQO will give some discount to current owners as was done in the past.  With the increased number of netbooks, mids, and umpc's in the market place, OQO would benefit by keeping current owners.   Smiley
