I don't see the Sony Vaio UX as being anything close to competition for the OQO. How many doctors, lawyers, and other professionals and business "road warriors" would or do carry the UX? Can't say as I've ever seen one, and if I had, I'd probably think I was seeing a PSP, and not a business tool....
The OQO is a niche product. There is a reason that there are so many different computers out there, ranging from the 5" OQO to the 23" HP HDX (discontinued, I think). For me, the 5" device is the great traveling computer, and hence I want battery efficiency, connectivity (data, not video), and ease of use with the business tools I use at my desk (MS Office, Quicken/Quickbooks/Firefox). The rest of it is just for fun, or for another niche that the OQO isn't meant for (because it would compromise the above).
Constantly posting about what the OQO is NOT (and questioning the management and engineering staff on their decisions) isn't productive. It'd be like me complaining why my Jeep Wrangler doesn't have leather, heated/cooled seats in it. It's not supposed to be that kind of vehicle. Neither is the OQO.
Certainly let OQO know what's on your "wishlist," but lets not get into challenging OQO's business decisions because they didn't include what you wanted. Many of us don't want that, and we're the buyers they are targeting. My 02+ (ordered within minutes of the store being opened) will be my third OQO, and probably not my last.

Please everyone I'm not the enemy here. I love what OQO is doing with the device. It is truly an awesome product that I'm sure the management and engineers have plans to expand on this in a big way. You know the saying, "Innovate or Die". I don't want OQO to die so I'm offering my ideas to assist in the innovation department.
You talk about real work, guys in my daily work life I'm an IT&T Manager supporting an environment of hundreds of systems in a 24/7/365 datacenter. I have staff and many servers to also manage simultaneously all day and night long. Believe me I'm with everyone here in this forum. I use the applications you have all stated above and more thanks. I need the OQO desperately but I could also use a bit more. For me the OQO gives me freedom from the office and puts me in the park with the kids while doing my job at the office instead of sitting at a desk at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon.
I'm in no way insulting anyone at OQO...., please man. I would like to see this product everywhere for everyone. I'm certain OQO would like the same. They are in this business to make a profit I'm sure so they can continue to develop this product to a device that everyone wants. So...., that means I will continue to open up my big mouth in hopes that a decision maker at OQO hears my voice and maybe takes on my request.
I too have my card in hand for the Q2 release of the 02+ but I really would like to see at least the addition of the SD slot by then. It would be an awesome addition. BTW SD technology has already overcome the speed issue. I only suggested it as the equivalent of a floppy disk or CD/DVD drive on a desktop PC for the OQO. What about "Micro-SD" support? Are you against even that small addition?
Gee....., man take a chill pill. I'm in this with all of you too.
What's wrong with bringing an idea to the table to possibly benefit everyone's love for this device...??

Its a good thing you guys don't work for OQO. Your very closed minded. This product would not have made it this far if the engineers where looking to you for new ideas.
Stop going off point and get into the discussion to bring something good to this product. I made my point in all the treads that are relevant to what I would like to see.
For some reason I get the feeling some of you don't want to see change unless it is your idea. I do hope that is not the case. After all everyone here I would assume are awesome intellectuals.
You still haven't stated whether or not a Micro-SD slot would be a great addition? No more reaching for a goodie bag of tricks.

I'd like to see microSD (along with other things) but I would guess a major reason it's not included is because it's the 02+ and uses the same case as the 02, and there is nowhere to put the microSD slot. Maybe with the 03, though.

I too would like to see a micro sd slot, heck even the u727 Sprint modem that I use has a micro sd slot built into it
.
But mostly because my cell phone uses them, I would like to see one.

learn to use proper homonyms, and you might be taken seriously

60gb is quite a bit of space. a microSD slot would be a nice addition, but not really a deal breaker, not when you could just swap in a larger HDD down the road, or you know, learn to use some of the networking capabilities of the machine and access files remotely....

Norman - it's not that I don't want to see change, or don't appreciate someone ONCE specifying their wishlist (and justifying it in a business oriented computer). It's that I know every addition means a trade off - something else has to go. It might be because of space, battery drain, or cost. I therefore choose NOT to endorse ideas that have little or no use for 99% of my applications. For business use - which is the niche OQO is targeting, a camera (and in my company, even an SD slot) would be unusable (and in fact disabled). It's not the new ideas I have a problem with. It's the "OQO will fail without this," or the "OQO engineers missed on this one," or the "OQO easily could have done this" from people who aren't familiar with OQO's priorities, have probably never disassembled an OQO, don't understand OQO's business objectives, are unfamiliar with the sourcing requirements on various parts, and generally think OQO should make a mass market appeal machine. I'd like to see OQO sell a lot of computers and certain be a successful company - but if they made a computer that appealed to a bazillion people, it probably wouldn't appeal to me.

Okay..., I've said my piece and I'm done.
I'm looking forward to passing my card over in Q2 nonetheless.
I do hope OQO heard me though.

With regards to HSDPA - do i need a cell phone for this? If so, it defeats my purpose of not having to get a phone. If not, how what do you know about AT&T's service and rates?
No, you would not need a cell phone
The reason would primarilly be: They are using the very same chasis for this model so where would they put a camera?

Hey Norman
The picture on Post #134 of the UMPC, is that in production or a render of some sort?
That thing is HOT-HOT-HOT!!!!
I would love to see OQO move in that direction (minus the sidewings)! WOW

Hi qryptiq,
That is a rendering of possible things to come.(I hope...!!) BTW....,"Toshiba" makes a 5.6-inch
WSVGA (1024X600)
resolution LCD for Mini PCs that could fit this rendering. I would assume there is an equivalent OLED version out there in the market somewhere. A 5.6-inch screen shouldn't change the dimensions of OQO's design philosophy for pocket sized computing to much. This should finally give us all what we want. Higher resolution while staying pocket sized and maintaining a DPI that is consistent, to some degree, with what we have now in the present 5.0-inch screens. Maybe that could be the direction for the Model 03.
Mind you, there isn't much of an edge around that renderings screen. However, I'm sure the engineers could get darn close to what we see there.

"Mobile Computing Displays"
I think the wings are there because the eraser mouse has been moved to the right wing and the power botton, left and right mouse bottons have been moved to the left wing. For use when the screen is slid close over the keyboard. It should also be a capacitive touch sensing screen. I think the rendering would be better also with the existing OQO chicklet styled keyboard.
I personally like the wings.
