Hi all
Just find a new harddrive from toshiba:
http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=22669
MK2431GAH HDD1905 - 240 GB - 4200 t/min - 1.8 " - ZIF40
Do you think it could be installed into an oQo e2 ?

Looks like that's an 8mm drive, so no

OQO 02 will take 5 - 8mm drives so the answer is yes.
But how much does it cost?
An SSD drive will be much faster.

I remembered Adam saying different, but researching that I see he subsequently corrected himself.
And so I stand correct, thanks

Wow! How awesome would that be to have 240GBs of storage in an 02? It would be great if OQO offered that as an option in the 2+.

It doesn't use the term "zero insertion force" or "ZIF" which is the type of PATA connector the OQO uses (if my memory serves me right) so I'd do a bit more research or look for another drive.

The link in the OP says "zif."

The original post does link to a third party description that says it is a ZIF connector but this is not mentioned on the Toshiba pages or in the Toshiba data sheet. It may be that it does but I would not buy it without verifying it with Toshiba.

I'd rather go for a 128GB SSD:
the webpage says HP Mini only, but I talked to them, they also have a version for any notebook that takes a 1.8" 8mm PATA ZIF drive.

Just a follow up on this drive option. It does fit and recognise but the firmware is not compatible with the bios on the OQO. I managed to get Vista to load on it but could not get it to set up a workable boot partition for dual boot applications. It rendered write errors when attempting image restores, and bluescreened frequently, and had shutdown issues and had problems with space above 128 GB. It would read and write to the portion of the drive above 128 GB in Windows but Mac would not see anything above 128 GB at all and Windows had some issues if a partition began above that limit with boot partition issues.
The bottom line in a non-technical sense is that it is not compatible. That is unfortunate as it would have been nice to have a 240 GB drive.
I have been working on another storage addition option for non-wwan units but I will save that for another post.
