I have a bulged up OQO standard battery, it bulged so much that it cannot be locked into the unit anymore, and is down to 20% capacity.
Do you repair those units too? Where do you get the new cells from?
Thanks,
Wolfgang

Your website and posts say nothing about replacing the cells, which is the problem that all of us have or will have eventually. It would be nice to simply state "new cells not included", or "new cells available in these capacities...at extra cost"

Hi Ron.... The website terms outline the repair process and that no new cells are included. This is not a refurbishing process but is intended for those who have batteries that need to be repaired so they can be properly charged.
Most people who have contacted us have relatively unused batteries that still hold a charge similar to a new battery.
Sorry for any confusion this caused you.

I apologize; you're right, it's on the terms page. Only a suggestion, but perhaps your company could find some cells that physically fit in the OQO battery case that might be rated for say 6000 mAH instead of 9000 mAH for the double battery, assuming they can work at the OQO's charge/discharge rates. That might be a more profitable business that just those customers who could not get their good batteries working.

Thanks Ron for the suggestion. We have contacted a few companies about the possibility of new cells and are waiting more information on cost.
We only started this service since we use the OQO very regularly and had the problem with some batteries that were sitting. Since we are tech based (although this is a stretch) I decided to offer it as a service.
Its really not profitible to be frank since the time to dismantle, run diags, charge while monitoring voltage of the direct battery leads, then discharge and recharge.. etc..... but who knows where this will lead. If OQO fails there is a high chance we would offer service for this niche product pertaining to hard drive replacement, and other obtainable parts.
Thanks for the suggestion.... Lets all hope out OQO's live forever without need for repair!!!!!!!

Personally I think their pricing is a little over the top, but as you say it takes time to do all this stuff. My biggest concern obviously is as Ron stated who knows what kind of life they will have after being brought back to life as they say.
All I know is I discovered today 2 dead batteries! One standard one extended which really doesnt make me jump for joy, I used to have so many of them and they are slowly all dying.
maybe a 2 for one deal

Don't let your battery sit and leave it charged if you are not using it regularly. I use all of mine periodically. I run them down and charge them up. This is better than just letting them sit. Never let them sit while drained.

I know I know, I just could not keep with all of them!
The OQO I have has seen such little use in the past year.
I have finally discounted the verizon service to save some dough.
No point in paying for something if your not using it , right?

Successfully transplanted 1500maH polymer battery into model 02 battery case. The battery cell only cost $10 and i have restored 40 to 60 mins of battery usage. PCB adapted to new cell and charge status in vista shows proper estimate and percentage. LED lights on battery also correctly adapted to new cell without need for reset or calibration.
woot!
ok so now that this has been accomplished i need help finding another source for a higher capacity li-po cell (as close to the original as possible) So far the only cell i could find with a depth of 5.5mm or less had the 1500maH capacity. Should we find such a source we can all say goodbye to expensive battery replacements and jus do it ourselves for less than $30.
i will post the exact specs of the original oqo li-po when i get home and hopefully we can work together to find a larger cell

How about a link to the place you bought it from.

The cell used was the same one used by a former poster in a previous thread concerning a model 01 battery.
http://www.batteryspace.com/highpowerpolymerli-ioncell37v1500mah355585-7c525wh10adrainrate.aspx
The cell however is sinificantly smaller both in size and capacity. Its great to be able to walk away from the outlet once again and also not to fear the plug falling out of the oqo will lose my progress in a game on or a report.
Knowing now that this cell both works and requires no additional effort to calibrate (the battery charger probably sees it as an original battery that has simply lost 2\3 of its capacity) we must as a community come together and find a larger cell...to do so would make the oqo viable for many years. I fear that the volatile nature of li-po batteries means that within a year or two all existing oqo batteries will have failed either thru repeated charging (they are only rated for ~400 cycles) or by simply having past their expiration date (a li-po cell, used or not, has a shelf life of ~3 years)
Now as for the exact specifications of the original OQO model 02 cell, here goes:
It is a 3.7v 5000mAh model 5080c2 with a thickness of 5mm, length of 122mm, and width of 80mm, with a weight of 110g.
So far finding a cell of greater capacity than 1500mah that fits those dimensions has been a challenge. If you can find one, i will be happy to use my oqo as the guinea pig for this experiment.

hey everyone, I just found this battery online click on the link and tell me what you experts think, the length and the width are smaller than the original oqo battery so the only problem is the thickness that is 8.9mm and the original oqo battery is 5mm so i don't know if there is enough room for the additional 3.9mm, but the voltage and the MHA is identical to the original OQO battery. please let me know if there is any other specifications i should look for. This maybe the key to getting are OQOs back!

It won't fit in the single cap case but it will fit into a double. So you could repair a bad 9 AH double with this 5 AH. The tabs are closer together but I imagine you would use wires soldered to the board and securely fastened to the tabs somehow since they may not accept solder (as someone else has posted).

Ok everyone i found a comopany that can custom make these cells for us for a very cheap price. but i do need the following information to gert tyeh pricing and i will be ordering one from them and i can let everyone know how it works. but first if any one can answer the following questions it would be very helpfull to ordering the proper battery cell:
1.Battery Operating Current- Min, Nom, Max
2.Operating temperature range:
Charging
Discharging
3.Storage temperature range
4.Max charge current
5.Number of cycles
6.Battery cell dimensions and tolerance
7.Max Battery demensions after assembly
8.Wires and connectors
9.Protection control module
10.Enclosure (Shrink, plastic)
I'm assuming the control module is the little circut board that is inside the battery case.
