You can vote 3 times if you have multiple 02's

There is a lot of speculation here and clearly some anecdotal evidence. I believe that the issue on mainboards does show a pattern but if everyone on the forum can vote truthfully on the main board issue, I would be very grateful. If there is a pattern then we might be able to do something about it - - - - - That might help keep our units alive.

Also anyone that recently sent in a 1.6Ghz 02 for a mainboard repair can you go into device manager then Processor and check if you still have a 1.6 CPU on board.

The stats are starting to show a trend of aprox 54% failure rate.
The 1.6, although it has not been out as long as the 1.5, has the highest failure rate.

But with only 23 voters so far this does not really mean too much. Please everyone with an 02/E2 take part in this poll.

Please note for this purpose we are only interested in the main logic board failures. If you have had an issue with some other part of your OQO then please do not take part.

I'm not too sure how valid any of this is. OQO Talk members comprise a small subsection of OQO users. Further I think they tend to comprise hobbyists, and people who are having problems and are looking for help. Non hobbyists who are NOT having any problems probably don't even know we exist. While I joined this board 2 years ago, for the next year when I was happily using my machine with no problems, I rarely logged in.

Just for the record, I'm not a 'hobbyist'; I got my 02 back in Feb. 2008 for business-use.

Also, just fyi, my 02 had two logic board failures in the first year of operation.

OK im happy to say "I wouldn't know a main board failure if one hit me in the face, im sure im not alone either.
My 02 has gone from working perfectly one minute to completly dead the next, all except for the running of the fan.
What would you say that constituted?  oh and ballcock's to OQO, the money I was going to use for an upgrade has taken me to Bangkok for an extended break having had to replace the OQO with a Toshiba NB100-139, HSPA built in.

If you see the OQO splash screen then is unlikely to be a mainboard failure ?

If you do not see the OQO splash screen then is it likely a mainboard problem ?

When mine died...here are my posts from that time frame:  http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,2496.msg18414.html#msg18414

I also had a splash screen at first, then just a light and fan and nothing else.  Sounds like the main logic board to me.

The 1.6, although it has not been out as long as the 1.5, has the highest failure rate.
Goolie/Adam pretty much confirms the above. Cheers.

The poll is showing a 60% Main board Failure on the 1.6Ghz and only a 16% on the 1.5Ghz.
Please can any 02/e2 owner that has not yet participated in the poll please do so. It will only take you a few seconds and will help us get a better picture here.

Also please anyone with a 1.6 that has been repaired more than once go to:

Control panel>System>hardware>device manager>processor

Then post and let us know if you still see a 1.6 or if you now have 1.5 processor.

Can I confirm that you sent a 1.6 that had failed and when you got it back the 2nd time you had a 1.5? If this is the case did OQO tell you they had downgraded the processor or have you only just found this out? Or are you saying after it failed 2 times you bought a 1.5?  As i see your signature shows you have both a 1.5 and a 1.6 OQO

That's certainly what fhvr40 implies in his post: http://www.oqotalk.com/index.php/topic,3888.msg32248.html#msg32248
