Ok if you want eye candy then here are some pretty cool stuff.  I really like eye candy and have another PC that can handle pretty sweet stuff as far as resources go.  Here are some things that the OQO can handle.....ok I lied, Aero and Dreamscenes is kinda pushing it.

AERO GLASS FEATURE
As far as glass aero-like features check out TRUE TRANSPARENCY which does not use as much resources as Glass2K, but does use quite a bit, and you can also download skins for it.

BOOTSKIN
This will not drain any resources and will change the green bar going across the screen on startup.  You can download the bootskin program from HERE

LOGIN SCREEN
This will not drain any resources either.  You can download the program from HERE and then get SKINS for it.

ICONS
I am pretty sure this does not drain resources. DOWNLOAD the program that replaces all of your icons and then get ICON PACKAGES for it.

MAC-LIKE DOCK
This is a dock that will go on the top of your screen like the dock that is on the bottom of OSX.  I live by ROCKETDOCK.  You do have to download the VISTA ICON PACK to make it less "girly".

DREAMSCENE
DREAMSCENE on Vista Business will defiantly eat up your resources but is pretty cool to turn on for 30 seconds to show off.

If you have anymore cool stuff then lemmy know cuz I am always looking for new ways to tweak the looks of my PC.  Cool

Hey JT,

Thanks for sharing those links. Do you know if there is any way to run Dreamscene without having to turn on aero?

There is a way you can enable Aero on the OQO but its alittle tricky but here is the answer to your question.

1) Yes but its not as good, first download VLC

2) Then go to "Settings > Preferences > Video > Output Modules > Direct X", check the "Advanced options" button then check the "Enable wallpaper mode".

3) Still in the preferences window expand "Interface > Main Interfaces > wxWidgets" then Then uncheck the box beside "Taskbar"

4) Then still in the preferences window click the "Playlist" option and choose your play settings.

5) Open your video with VLC and voila!   Grin

To make it start with windows then this is the best way I can think of.
6) I imagine you know how to make certain video extensions open with a designated player by default so I wont go into that.

7) Then just place a shortcut of your movie into the startup folder. (Start menu > All Programs > Startup)

Thanks, JT. RocketDock looks like a good alternative to getting often used programs to launch. I'm a big fan of Launchy for my Windows XP OQO and non-Vista PCs, but that requires the keyboard to be used.

Can someone please explain to me why transparency borders is so desirable (other than being pretty, which itself is subjective)?

I am a huge fan of launchey as well.  I have my Laptop setup with three partitions....The first one is Vista and is only there for looks(and it looks awsome!), then I have XP which I have setup with no eye candy at all and alot of performance tweaks for my programming, gaming, photo editing, and college use. and lastly OSX for fun.  Out of the three I use XP 95% of the time.

I've always liked Mac OS better, but I think Leopard looks like trash compared to how it should look. I prefer it to Vista, simply because Vista is no less flashy and has worse placement, but it's either way too shiny in the standard window buttons or horribly boring in iTunes and the other iLife stuff. They should really just take the Aperture interface and spread it everywhere.

Vista.. it looks OK. It's not amazing but the only thing that really annoys me is that on some buttons, clicking on them has a crossfade transition that is a little too slow. I appreciate the idea, but the execution is less than ideal. I wish Apple would steal the window-close animation since it looks great.
