I have problems with my OQO 2 and will list them below.

1) When using the power cord, the OQO doesn't show that its battery is charging unless I giggle the power cord connection. I am referring to the small part that connects to the bottom of the OQO.  I need to press it gently, then the unit will receive power.  Is that a problem with the power cord or the connecting piece at the bottom of the OQO? What do I need to do?

2) If the OQO is powered on , and if I slide the screen up to access the typing keys, the OQO will sometimes power off into sleep or hibernation mode.  This is frustating. Does anyone have this problem and any advice what to do?

Any advice on these issues is appreciated. Thanks guys!!

I can't say for sure, but it sounds to me as though the issue is with the power / dock connector rather than the power adaptor itself. Do you have another power adaptor you can try it with? If it really bothers you, you could send it off to Teleplan to have it repaired at a cost. Otherwise, just be careful you don't apply too much force as that could damage the connector. Does the connector feel loose when you plug the adaptor in?

In regards to your second problem, have you checked to see whether the put computer to sleep when lid closed option is enabled in Window's power management settings?

stuart:

The connector at the bottom of the OQO feels sturdy, not loose. I will try to buy another adapter as you suggested to test it. If the connector at the bottom of the OQO is the problem, I guess there is no way for me to repair it myself. I don't want to send to Teleplan or other places as I need the OQO daily.

I will check on the power management settings.

Thanks for your time and comments.

Your problem is in the power supply adapter, or the OQO power port.  The only way to tell would be to test it with another power supply.  This is an unusual problem.  I have never seen this before.  The power supply port on your OQO is on the motherboard itself.  Replacement of the motherboard is almost impossible since spares are not readily available.  Hopefully, the problem is in the power supply adapter.

Yes, the issue can be on either side. The best way to find out is to swap a power adapter and/or the OQO. The cheapest way is to find someone who is willing to lend you a power adapter. You may ask Picasso or someone here who has more than one adapter sitting around and not in use. You can simply Paypal that person a security deposit the value of the adapter and have him refund the once you returned it to him. Or you can buy one for less than $14 USD below if you are in the Silicon Valley area. See below:

my factory power supply adapter right where it connects into the oqo...that half inch piece of flattened wider plastic has fallen off once - be careful you don't lose the external cover and be careful to inspect it is working /connecting properly.

Thank you guys for your comments.  In the  past months the OQO won't seem to charge the battery unless I giggle the power cord.  Now even if I giggle it, it doesn' t seem to want to charge. Looks like my OQO is near death. I would like to get a new power cord to test but I am not in California.   Can anyone lend me one or sell me one?

When you say power cord, do you mean an AC power cord or do you mean the actual AC to DC adapter? The AC power cord usually cost $5 or less at your local RadioShack stores.

Well I just don't know where the problem really is on the power cord. Is it the power cord that connects to the wall, or the power cord from the adapter to the OQO.  I think the problem is the latter. It is frustrating.  By jiggling with the power cord for many minutes, I usually am able to power the OQO.  But I can't move the power cord AT ALL as any movement may just cut off power. Does anyone know if there is a computer store that I can send the OQO to for service in the Seattle area??

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Folks, I just wanted to let you all know that I fixed the problem. It was due to the power cord, and not the OQO itself. I got a new power cord and the OQO powered up!!! I think the old power cord may have been trampled on by my office chair when I rolled it around. Anyway, its great to have the OQO workiing fine again.  I would never have thought the power cord was the problem. Anyone has the same experience?

Anyway, thanks again to all who replied above and for your good advice.

Hi Everyone:

I just want to say how happy I am with my OQO2. I had some problems with the power cord and zoom but have resolved those issues. Now the OQO simply works like new. I hope no issues in the future. I use it to trade stocks and so do not usually have lots of programs running at the same time. I hope this will make it last. Its so portable, and trading from it has been profitable.

Anyone who has advice on how to clean the OQO as dust gets built up, please let me know.

Thanks and good luck to OQO users!
